That was great!! I think I have a little crush on astro and jimm.
Probably close; add a sprinkling of dorkiness, and a Maritime accent (a mash of French/Irish) being covered up by a “ghetto” Seattle accent (I learned to speak “American” from my husband, biatch)… you’re probably spot on. I tend to sound cheerful, if incomprehensible.
You always sound like a calm, rational, fatherly voice in my head - the very voice of reason, always requesting patience, logic, and empathy. A little bit like my Dad. That’s not an insult.
I have enormous respect for my father, who was my first inspiration; and is a clever, intelligent, and very calm fellow. He’s also a cool dude. So to remind of him, you must be a pretty cool dude, yourself.
Kythereia - I always hear a light, pleasant voice, that sounds as though it’s going to bubble into laughter.
dahfisheroo - Sounds like someone from back home, or maybe a Newf. It’s the “fisheroo” part; probably because I come from a fishing community.
Shirley Ujest - sounds like a lady I used to work with whose name was Shirley - and she was a riot.
Mr. Bus Guy - sounds like my FIL - a little gruff, not really gravelly - but Bus Guy, in my mind, has about 60% less “grump” in his voice than my FIL. I love my FIL, and he’s a lovable grump, but he is a grump. Bug Suy is not. In my head.
Mika Meeks - er… Anaamika - sounds similar to me, but with a different accent. Cheerful, with a touch of dryness.
Aaaand… I just listened to those audio clips, and holy cow - astro sounds sexy. Not at all what I thought he would sound like. I… don’t know what I thought he would sound like, but not like that. Neat.
Dude, I’m a poor Irishwoman! And I’m more Elf, but they didn’t have the Elf name generator up when I was looking for a 'net handle… Although I used to call myself Xena2000
Lunch Lady Doris is who I hear “narrating” the board.
My accent is unique. ie awful, I phone people, and ask to speak to so and so and the person who answered the phone tells so and so “there’s a man on the phone for you”
I think I have a deficiency here - I don’t hear any voices at all when I read the Dope. The thing that distinguishes one Doper from another isn’t a sound, or an imagined face. It’s more of an assigned personality for many Dopers, one that is constantly adjusted as I read more from them.
I don’t hear anything when I read books, either, although I understand that some people assign voices and appearances to characters they read about. I’m more likely to remember on which area of the page I read a certain paragraph.
I hear your posts in something very similar to my friend Ginger’s voice, and that description is spot-on.
Kyth always sounds vaguely Lisa-Kudrow-esque.
And there’s really no need to explain how I hear any of velvetjones’ posts.
I’ll agree that Leasty (lookit that, a new nickname!) sounds like Fry. I had never thought of it that way, but when I went back and reread with Fry’s voice, it was too perfect not to use.
I know what What Exit sounds like, so I’ll skip him.
I hear people talking about sex.
Oh, wait, that’s the podcast. Nevermind.
Well, then stop casting your pod out there! Then people will stop approaching you for sex!
As per the “typical” Jersey girl, you’ve also got a slight bot of the Nanny in your voice.
Sorry, toots.
I’m mostly like that myself, except I do usually have a mental image also. Since I’ve only seen pictures of a couple dopers and have never met any IRL it’s all my own imagination.
“If only we were amongst friends… or sane persons!”
loves on you
Now I’m definitely flattered! mwah
Now I’m not so sure if I’m flattered or not, but I’ll take it as a compliment anyways.
I imagine what people look like, if that’s any better: Qadgop looks like a (very distinguished and dignified) cross between J.R.R. Tolkien and Albert Einstein, Anaamika looks like Aishwarya Rai, Eve looks like Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada…
That could be a fun companion thread to this, but that one holds much less mystery.
All our ugly mugs have been on the 'nets, though.
Heh. I wish. Einstein’s hair, certainly. Mixed with Krusty the Clown’s
Kytheria, did I say to stop loving on me?
I read this thread, and I wonder what I have to do to help Francesca with that page. Man, that is a great archive!
Paging Francesca! If you would, drop me a line when you get a chance. E-mail is in my profile.
Tripler
I’m throwing the proverbial line in the water, and I’m watching the bobber.
I EXIST!!!
I sound more Canadian than anything, maybe a female Swedish dairy farmer. Actually I have very nice diction if trying to sound intelligent, or in an unfamiliar environment, but if I am really comfortable around you, I can get pretty sloppy. I have noticed I post the same way as I speak, depending on topic.
That is indeed a high compliment, being compared to the late Colonel Cooper.
The resemblance ends at a love of firearms, though- I’m only 25, and speak more like a BBC Newsreader or a WWI/WWII British Officer than anything else.
Winston Smith = Jack Nicholson
Almost exactly the same here. I read fast, so to “hear” something I’d have to slow down an awful lot. Any prominent people have personalities attached, and in the case of the few whose pictures I’ve seen, a face too. But for voices, I got nothin’.
I’m much like Sleel. I don’t hear accents or anything when I read Dopers’ posts. I don’t even hear gender, let alone things like age or - heaven forbid - personality. There’s just a generic ‘voice’. I do ‘feel’ all the things like accent and gender, but it doesn’t have a ‘sound’.
Sometimes when I re-read my posts, I hear Kramer or George.
