Oh, I indeed do take that as a compliment because I liked her. However, I am curious as to specifically why. Do you mind sharing? And thanks for thinking of me in the first place, for this board is so big and me so indescript that I don’t feel anyone ever notices me at all.
Most of the time, my imagination’s turned off and I just read the words. Sometimes, though, I do “hear” a male or female voice, depending on what I know or think I know about the poster.
I don’t have to “hear” gender to be interested, however.
It’s strange. I don’t hear any of the voices you guys hear. When I’m reading the Dope, all I get is:
“Sefton! Stop surfing the web and get back to your job!”
and
“Sefton! I need the vector so I can land this plane!”
and then
“Sefton! You goddam-Aaaaaaargh!”
But after that, things get kinda quiet and I can read the Dope in peace.
OK, this cracked me up but good! Especially if I went thru a phone sex script in my workday voice. Imagine a distracted multi-tasker in a cubicle: “Oh baby… oh yeah… hang on *<Can you check this spreadsheet for me?> * I’m sorry, where were we? Oh, yeah, hot - you’re making me hot *<What? I thought that meeting was tomorrow!!> * Um, right, yeah, that’s the way you like it. mmmmmmmmmmmm feels so… <Gimme a minute, will you? I’m on the phone here!!>”
Back on topic, I don’t so much hear voices as try to stick faces to usernames. Easy with those I’ve met, occasionally surreal with the rest.

Faithfool, I’ve racked my brain trying to figure where and why I assigned your avatar. I’m stumped. It must have been one of those things that just popped into my head, unbidden. I’m glad you like it tho’

Almost everyone on the board has an avatar/voice (to me). I’ve used almost the entire cast of the tranformer’s movie, Gilligan’s Island, and Bewitched. There’s even a Sylvester the cat (but I’m keeping quiet… I like Sylvester, but I don’t know whether that particular SDMB member does).
Oh, now I’m curious. Do you have one for me? What is it?

The voice that I hear when reading each and every post by members of the SDMB, male or female, is that of Ladislav Löwenstein . (Interestingly, I hear normal voices from SD guests and members of other message boards).
That’s funny, LOUNE! IRL I bear a passing resemblance to Jack Nicholson, enough so that if I can do a pretty convincing (i.e. scary) Jack Torrence impersonation.
I knew it! It makes your role as **50’s Dad ** even funnier imagining Jack doing the talking.
