Okay, if you’re American, that might be read as “will you be watching the game tomorrow?” Of course I’m talking about England vs Brazil and/or USA vs Germany.
For the first one I will tape and then watch most before leaving to watch the second match. A German colleague has arranged a breakfast reservation at the Black Forest restaurant to eat and watch the game. It will be interesting to see how many others, besides me, will root for the USA over der Vaterland. Many there will be at least one generation removed from Germany, so I hope there is at least some ambivalence. If it seems dangerous I may escape at the half.
I’ll probably only be able to watch half of each: the first half of England-Brazil before I leave for work in the morning, and the second half of USA-Germany during my lunch hour. Unfortunately I really can’t take any more time off, especially on as busy a day as tomorrow will be for us. Hopefully my boss will take pity on me and let me sneak away before the first half of the USA game ends, but I’m not counting on it.
My tentative plan is to watch England - Brazil at home and then head off to Ben’s Half Yard House (a big sports bar) in the early morning to watch USA - Germany.
I’ll wake up in the middle of the night for England-Brazil. Unfortunately, I have to be at my desk during the USA match, but my wife (who will be home) will lovingly call me and leave the phone next to the TV so I can listen.
We’ve got to get you a real job, driving a bus or something like that. No more of that high-powered-priveleged-class-can’t-take-the-morning-off-to-see-the-cup stuff. That’s just not right.
I am English, but for Brazil v. England, I can’t watch most of it :(. I have to both watch, and give a speech in the end of year assembley. I even wrote something about the match into my speech! Needless to say, half the school will be absent anyway.
USA vs. Germany, I’ll watch with my German and American friends after school. Perhaps in a restaurant or something. I’ll be going for Deutschland. Not really a true Englishman then.
For me, the U.S.-Germany game will start at 4:30 in the morning. I wil watch at home. Fortunately, I don’t have to work Friday.
I’ve realized that with the Spanish language feed being 10 seconds ahead of the English language feed here that my neighbors are watching the Brazil-England game in Spanish.
Watching England-Brazil right now in the office. The boss set up a 29-inch TV for the duration of the tournament. He didn’t buy beer for everyone this time, like he did for the Japan games.
The US-Germany game is at 8:30pm local time, so we’re hoping that the bar chosen for tonight’s welcome/good-bye party has a TV.
FWIW I was interviewed by the local newstation during the game. Which was annoying because I almost missed something important. The guy noticed my uncanny resemblance to Brad Friedel (except he’s 4 inches taller) and my friends mentioned that I’d been to Korea for the preliminary matches. My kids should get a kick out of seeing Daddy on the TV again.
Oh well, the most fervent fans surely know the results by now anyway. In the US they mentioned the Brazil - England result in the telecast, although only once that I noticed.
