Where can I find some well made tights?

I don’t like wearing hose or tights, but if I want to keep wearing my work skirts in the winter I’ve come to terms with having to wear tights or something. Fine. Where can I get some nice pairs? Fully fashioned like good hose? Comfortable? That don’t rip on the ass seam when I get in 'em, like these did this morning? These are from Target, which I wouldn’t normally rely on but they were an emergency purchase.

Even better, where can I get truly black black tights, that don’t have that bluish gray cast to them?

Falke make very, very, very nice tights and stockings.

They’re not cheap, but they wear well, wash well and they’re incredibly comfortable. I have never had a pair of Falke stockings ladder or rip on me.

I assume you could order direct from them, or find a shopping site that stocks them.

Calvin Klein makes truly black, truly opaque, truly indestructible tights. Get some now, and don’t worry about it for the next few years.

Nordstrom’s “house” brand tights tend to last forever. Online, they’re $10 each.

When you need to make do with Target’s tights–pick a larger size.

Dance tights are really well made and soft too - the don’t get that crappy feel to them like cheap tights do.

Christ, you ain’t kidding. I mean, I’ve gained some weight the past two years, but you should have seen me trying to get into these this morning. My boyfriend was howling with laughter. “Hey, you know, that’s the least sexiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life!” Thanks, dear.

Shrug

I actually like Target’s black tights – they fit fine (and I am not a small woman) and last for months of being worn a couple of times a week. At $5/pair (on sale, ordinarily $6 IIRC), they’re a good value.

Yeah, dance tights will last forever. I also like Hue for well made, long lasting tights.

Try Mode’s Boutique, in Metroville.

I’m with you - tights are all I wear in winter (to work, under skirts) so I am always on the quest for good tights. I like Hue tights (they have tons of varieties), but I really like the cable & flat knit sweater tights. They are so comfortable, fit very well, last forever, and you can machine wash and dry them. And they are warm, but not too hot. And their regular opaque tights are good too.

If you want more variety, this site has a lot of great tights!

I swear by the Secret tights, but only the ones that are waistband free. Yes! No waistband! They don’t give you the little ring around the middle if you aren’t built like a brick…you know. I love them.

Dance tights are the only kind I’ve ever worn. Of course, I’m a guy, so …

I got mine in a little dancewear shop in Shandon, Zsofia. I don’t know if it’s still there: this would have been 1984.

I would check a department store. You’ll be able to look at a lot of different brands and see which you like best. They also normally have samples that you can see before buying to get an idea of the thickness and quality. J.Crew also has great tights. I normally get mine from there and they are an excellent quality.

My best tights were from www.nashbar.com, but that doesn’t sound like what you’re looking for…

Can these good brands of tights stand up to boots? I have a pair of cowboy boots I wear a lot – and even though the inside doesn’t feel very rough, they always snag a rough spot. It’s annoying; I have to have “boot tights” and “shoe tights.”

Like Twicks, I have been content with Target brand thus far, LEGGs from the grocery story in a screaming emergency.

I can’t remember the brand of the last tights I bought – chances are they were Hue, or maybe Calvin Klein. They’ve held up really well. However, I still have several pairs of DKNY black tights that date back to college (let’s say 10-11 years ago), and are still in perfectly wearable condition.
