I’ve seen TV ads for products that can clean upholstery – generally a kind of foam; apply, wait, remove with a vacuum cleaner. But I can’t find them in stores. I’ve tried all the local drugstores, and Target. At Target they suggested I try the supermarkets – which rent upholstery-cleaning machines, but don’t want to spend that much; I just want to clean the fabric-covered swivel-chair I am sitting in now, which I have been sweating into for at least four years and never yet cleaned.
I’d get carpet cleaner, Resolve or something like that. I can buy carpet cleaner at Target or grocery stores here, so I’d imagine you can, but if not, you can always order it online.
I bought a 1986 Volvo recently and I’m guessing the upholstery had never been cleaned. No stains, but they had kids and the back seats in particular were filthy.
Auto Zone had one upholstery cleaner:
Blue Magic. carpet stain and spot lifter.
I can’t tell you how amazing this stuff is…I was BLOWN AWAY!
The tall spray can says, “Home and Auto,” “works when others fail” and they list these stains in big letters on the front of the spray can:
Coffee, blood, grease, tar, wine, pet stains and dozens more.
I sprayed the hell out of those seats and waited for it to dry. No vacuuming, no nothing. I touched up a few extra dirty spots, but other wise it was painless.
And it cost $5.00
Full disclosure: I have no connection with product.
Myself: No scrubbing or anything?
The instructions on the can say:
Use on old stains
Spray stained area thoroughly, allow 30 seconds, blot stain firmly with clean dry towel or absorbent material, repeat as needed to clean though older spots. Note: some very tough older spots and stains may require gentle brushing with a soft bristle brush.
It warns users to test in inconspicuous area to test color fastness of carpets, especially wool.
My car seats did require some reapplication and brushing in tough spots.
No CFCs!
