Where can I watch the Super Bowl online?

I’m out of the country and will likely have no access to a television on Super Sunday. :frowning:

Anybody know a good way to watch the game online? I’m willing to pay… within reason. NFL.com has their all-access pass for $25 which sounds like a lot for a single game on a computer screen. If I can’t find a better option I’ll have to pony up, but I figured I’d check around first.

Any help here would be dipped in chocolate and covered in sprinkles.

Well, it looks like xomba has free watching.

Huh. Maybe my travels have weakened my already dulling wits (or maybe I’m being whooshed), but where did you find the Super Bowl on xomba? Your link goes to the home page and there is an article discussing the NFL (specifically, the horrendous ineptitude of the Bills…heh) but I can’t find any place where one might actually watch a game.

I found a link to xomba in a google search, but it looks to be an advert that sends me right back to nfl.com and its wretched expensive video section. Damn you nfl.com! And damn your high-speed streaming HD video coverage as well*!!

*specifically, damn the fact that I didn’t discover it until the very end of the season, when I could’ve been watching football this entire time!
ETA: I just now noticed the ‘Xombytes’ section with videos. Alas, I still can’t find a link for the Super Bowl. But at least I feel like I’m getting closer…

If the NFL can charge $25 for people to watch the Superbowl on their website, I very much doubt that they would give any other provider permission to offer it for less or for free.

So I’m pretty confident that the answer is “NFL.com and nowhere else (legally)”

True enough, but what they’re selling isn’t just the Super Bowl. They’re selling their All-Access Season Pass™ which, had I thought of it earlier, would’ve allowed me to watch all the games this season in HD (which, on a 15" laptop screen, I really don’t care the least bit about. If someone offers normal quality video for less, that would be just dandy in my book). Because it’s past mid-season, they offer a slight discount but they’re still selling a whole package rather than just the single game. I’m still holding out hope that maybe they would sell the rights to this one game, partially because there will be huge numbers of people like me trying to watch and it would help keep their server running in peak condition for their HD watchers, and partially (more) because I’m an insufferable optimist.

Have you checked the fine print on nfl.com? I wouldn’t be surprised if it was only for people in the US.

ARRGH! There goes my backup plan. It doesn’t say that it’s limited only to the US, but I did find a handy little blurb at the bottom:

Note: Due to broadcast restrictions, Playoffs games are not available in the United Kingdom.

Guess where I am?

Ok, second question. If I can’t find any means of watching online, are there any NFL fans out there in London who might know where I could possibly watch the game? I’m here visiting a special lady friend and, apart from not actually owning a television (which I applaud), she does not in any way understand my obsession with (American) football and need to watch its biggest game.

I’m also open to alternative suggestions, (barely) short of flying back to the States for the weekend.

I’m sure you could listen to streaming radio, but that might be the extent of your online options.

Doesn’t London have a bunch of American bars? Surely one of them would be showing the game.

It’s the Super Bowl. It will be on in bars all over London. Walk to the nearest one and there’s a 98% chance it will be be on at 10PM on a Sunday.

Man, I would’ve thought that as well, but I have yet to see a single shred of evidence suggesting that anyone here has even heard of the Super Bowl, let alone any intention whatsoever of letting it take up space in their sacred pubs. They have bars on every corner, but they all advertise the latest “evil football” games. I mean, I’m sure that there has to be one showing it somewhere, London’s a big place. I’m just worried about my ability to locate it.

Good news, just found out my Broncos are playing a game at Wembly stadium next year.

Pick your favorite pub (or ask around for a popular one) that has more than a handful of TVs and either talk to the bartender/manager or give them a call. It’s not EPL but it’s a big event and there’s a metric assload of US Expats in London. They’ve been playing games there the last few seasons for a reason. They might not have banners and publicity for it, but you can be sure that it’ll be on a handful of TVs. It’s not like there’s going to be any big counter programming going on at that time of night in the middle of winter.

Bars here in Chicago always have EPL games on when they are playing and a regular season soccer match is surely much less notable in the US than the Super Bowl in England. I’d go so far as to wager that if you walked to 5 pubs right now 3 of them would have the Pro Bowl on at this very instant.

Yer on! What are the terms?

A couple pints seems natural. Though with how McNabb is playing I wouldn’t be surprised if all those pubs changed the channel in disgust.

This is from last year, but I imagine the same places will be showing it:

And, ummm, all I did was Google London Superbowl.

They had over 1500 people at last years London Superbowl party.

Ok. I go into 5 bars, right now. If at least 3 are showing the Pro Bowl, I have to buy a couple pints. And drink them. If they are NOT, then I… um… buy a couple pints. And drink them.

Your ON!!
One way or another… I’m winning this bet!

Wait…when do I get pints?

Rats!

Awesome! Thanks for this. I owe you some sprinkles…

“London Super Bowl”, eh? Well, huh. See, there’s where I got it wrong. I was searching mostly for variations of online streaming videos, or places to watch super bowl abroad. Many many adverts. Zero results.

There’s some sort of lesson to be learned here about overcomplicating a problem. I’m going to get straight to work writing a very detailed program to help me analyze exactly what that lesson could be.

Well obviously in a losing scenario, I’d be dedicating those pints to YOU. Sheesh…

I’ll even recite my patented Long Distance Bet Losing Pint Dedication toast.

“To my Man Omni. Whose vast knowledge of all things Football far exceeds the scope of his beer-reachin arm”.
