Where did bachelor's parties come from?

Did a search for this, and no luck… anyone have any ideas? May have one of my own soon, and just wondered…

I read somewhere once that it is a celebration of “the harnessing of the dangerous and disruptive male libido”.

The traditional bachlor party activities, revolving around booze, gambling, porno, strippers, hookers, are to taunt the groom with what he is leaving behind, and the humiliation rituals (shoepolishing the groom’s scrotum, getting him pissed as a newt and putting him on a bus out of town wrapped in a blanket with no wallet, padlocking him to a downtown lamppost, smearing him in axle grease from head to toe) are to punish him for surrendering to married banality.

I hope your bachelor party is relatively tame with only symbolic concessions to these traditions. With the politically correct supression of modern young men’s natural male aggression your buddies are probably too repressed to subject you to the manly abuse you deserve for wimping out and getting married.

“Better dead than wed.”

Life’s tough enough without a piano on your back."

I think it’s just simple guy pranks, the same as every other party.
