I missed that one. His fly-off-the-handle, bizarre goodbye post, while no Freaky Feeley, certainly rates at least a 5 on the crazy meter. His overreliance on the tired cliche of being an oppressed conservative on a liberal board docks him a few points, though. A good read though, thanks.

I think Crandolph just got off on the wrong foot after getting up on the wrong side of the bed. But my OP was, in a very small part, referencing New Iskander. He’s more the newer type of poster: an easily-dismissed, drooling idiot, who just clogs up the boards with his tripe without offering any of the good bizarreness from the good old days. Or maybe I’m just getting older and more hard to please, but I’d like to see a bit more entertainment from the idiot crowd.

Now, with my 5 year anniversary of my registration approaching, I look out at the board and I still find a number of stupid, trollish posters. But these modern ones are of a new breed. They go about their business much more quietly. They revel in their ignorance, for certain, but they have learned to hide their motives and move in the nooks and crannies of the board. They will post in more than one forum, on more than one topic, to avoid being an obvious one trick pony. They invent outrageous, unverifiable stories about their lives, and go on to play the part. They attempt to hide their vile hatred by claiming simple misunderstanding. They create elaborate scenarios to avoid condemnation. They do not come right out and speak their mind, but hide their hatred or trolling in subtle ways.

Well, these are obviously things we can rationally discuss, and reasonably disagree about, but to be really direct you’re kind of just rolling dice in making these these trolling accusations. After all, some of these people might be the real deal, and here you are really dissing them. I believe you need to re-think directions in terms of making this a more reasoned discussion.

The poster you are most likely referring to was never shown to be telling any sort of tale except in your own, and a few other’s, opinions. Your treatment of this individual was disgraceful and while I enjoyed your thread series inspired by this individual(although I find it hard to believe anyone can drink that much, even in college), your treatment of him was unjustified. Quite frankly I have much more respect for the way he behaved than the way you did, even if the stories were fiction. He was curteous and did not make a stink about you, and a couple others, treating him like a liar for what you percieved as inconsistencies in his posts.

Had your thread series been heckled/nitpicked as his was I doubt you would have responded as gracefully.

I agree with astro. If you’re not willing to name names and show actual evidence of the nefarious intentions of those you are snidely slandering then you should let it go.

I didn’t “name names” so that I wouldn’t encourage them and to avoid any problems with the rules of the board. I also tried to avoid making specific accusations of trolling. I find the idea that I need to specify posters who I am dissing, so that they can defend themselves from not being specifically named to be tortured logic at best.

Are you referring to a poster from roughly 3 years ago who had a penchant for females wearing nighttime apparel? If so, that was not anyone I had in mind in making the OP. First, it was 3 effin’ years ago, not currently, and second, it was a cute story. I personally don’t remember ever treating that poster badly, or heckling him, or nitpicking him, as you accuse me of, but I may not be remembering one of my posts. I just thought, as many others did, that he was making up the story. If you are not referring to that person, well then I’m stumped as to what you are referring.

Again, I am confused by the idea that I could be “slandering” someone when I had gone to great pains not to name them. While I’m sure you can pick out some that I had been thinking about, it’s pretty hard to say I’m slandering them if I do not even mention descriptions of them, let alone name them.

But when a couple of posters I respect seem to think I’ve crossed a line, mayhap I have. It’s just I’ve had a cold, I feel cranky, and I have this cough coming on:

I thought that people would be able to come up with their own lists of these kinds of posters. Hell, I would imagine I’d be on one or two of them. Each poster would have their own little list in their mind, and be able to appreciate the OP for what it was worth. They’d look at their little list and compare it to the Pantheon of Idiots and wonder where the greats have gone to. That way, I can make my point, we can have fun reminiscing (I had completely forgotten about Beryl Mooncalf, that was good stuff), and this thread doesn’t devolve into yet another boring, tedious pissing match. But I guess that wasn’t good enough…
