I’ve had this something missing feeling, and didn’t know what it was. I then read the “flaming meteor habanero cock” thread and realized that I hadn’t seen any new stuff from our prolific poster INOR. I know it’s usually TMI with inor, but he just fell off the board.

He can’t come back, he has been banned, sort of. And I am not disagreeing with the mod’s decision…he went over the line. He didn’t understand, exactly, where the line was, although I tried to explain it to him. He finally got it when it was too late.
Ben said that he was looking into criminal action over this pit thread (I can’t post a link, I have never figured out how to do it) and the administration can’t take the chance of the Chicago Reader getting involved. They are right, but I miss him too.
inor is a really good person. He is honest, and caring. He is also funny, and even when he was being inappropriate, he made me laugh.
I hope (probably in vain) that with time this whole thing will settle down and he will be able to rejoin the SDMB.

I said he was banned “sort of” because I am not sure exactly WHAT his status is. He thinks he has been banned, but as you said, he doesn’t have banned underneath his name. That is why I, personally, have hopes that he may be able to come back.
But read the thread that Arden Ranger so thoughtfully provided the link to (thanks, dear, I am computer illiterate and every time I try to provide a link I end up looking even dumber than I am) and you will see that he did, in fact, go over the line. That was NOT his intention, but you know about intentions and the road to hell?
Anyway, he will be thrilled to know that so many people miss him. He really IS a sweetheart.

Yeah, I wanted to kick his butt about that. Actually. No threat I had no intention to follow through on. The sort of asskicking that you do to someone you like who is making an absolute fool of himself. But I have no idea where he lives, except in the general, someplace on the planet Earth, sort of way.
He’s happy at Fathom. I introduced him to concrete and have lived to regret it. If he thinks he’s banned, that’s fine. I’m sure he’s personna non grata here for now, regardless his official status.

I read the thread and it was over the line but I didn’t really take it seriously. But I’m not an expert on these matters by any means… I found it strange that in his first few posts he seemed pretty unserious like - then he just changed. Maybe I missed something. But I know that I MISS him. Could he apologize or something? I don’t even know him well enough to know if that is something he would ever do (apologize that is). And maybe he just doesn’t care. Anyway -I’m thinking way too much about this so…
As a newbie - he was one of the first posters I would specifcally look for - especially his MPSIMS threads. So I too feel like something is missing around here.

I checked out the board at Fathom (inor aka rino’s current whereabouts) via a link here and it’s really great. For those who visit, be forewarned: you’ll be welcomed to death, which is not a bad thing.

Yes. I think, as you do, that inor was clearly NOT threatening Ben with real life violence. However, it WAS apparently taken seriously by some people, and the board cannot operate well by deciding who is serious about these things and who is not. It is not their job to decipher intentions. It is their job to make sure that no one goes over the line. inor understands this now.
And he DID apologize, but it was too late.
He is well, and although he misses being here, he understands and accepts the fact that he made mistakes. I hope that eventually he will be able to return, but he holds no such hope.
This board is a wonderful place to hang out, callie. People do NOT get “banned” for no reason. Sometimes things happen that are maybe not what we want to have happen, but they NEVER happen without a good reason. We have wonderful mods and administrators, and they put in massive amounts of unpaid time in order that the rest of us should be able to enjoy our time here.
I miss inor. He is my friend. But, he did wrong and he knows it. The fact that he didn’t MEAN to do wrong is a mitigating circumstance as far as I am concerned. But…can we expect the people who run this board to take the time to get to know every single poster, so that they will KNOW what each poster means, or doesn’t mean, every time they post?
This should be a lesson to all of us…Think before you post.

Yes, I know people miss him. I understand that. Yes I understand that he says he didn’t mean anything ‘real life’ by his verbal threats. But, when you read the thread, the sequence is:
inor posts threat. Poster tells him ‘you’re out of line’ inor doesn’t back down. 2nd poster tells him he’s out of line, inor swears at her, Administrator says “you are out of line, don’t do it again”, he cross posts more threats, yet another poster tells him he’s out of line, and his next response acknowledges the warning by the administrator and says:
(emphasis added) Doesn’t sound remotely either apologetic, nor insistant that he didn’t mean the threats in real time.
He only mentioned that he didn’t really mean it in real life after yet another poster came in and pointed out that the people he was ‘defending’ would likely not appreciate his actions. When this was confirmed by one of them, he started with ‘how could anyone be so silly as to believe that I’d actually do any of this?’, but that was several hours after the original exchange and after an administrator and 4 - 5 other posteres tell him ‘you’re over the line’.
So, it wasn’t like ‘a’ mistake. I’m glad that he’s learned from the experience. But, to me, there were several opportunities for him to back down or simply even not post more, and he continually kept on. It’s sad to see people act in self destructive ways in front of your face (assuming that he enjoyed posting here and that to loose that ability would sadden him). But, several people tried to tell him so. and he ignored it.

Except that the quote I cited above came as a direct response to the administrator’s post. If it was a simple case of ‘misunderstanding’ the rules of the forum, when the administrator comes in and 'splains 'em to you, that’s your cue to say ‘oops, sorry won’t happen again’. Instead, he assured her it would happen again.
like I said. several people tried to tell him (many publically, some I believe e-mailed him, too), and he ignored all of us. So, ‘he didn’t understand’ isn’t really a good defense in this situation. Do you see what I mean?
Lots of people liked him, I know. To me, it isn’t about him personally. If he’d backed down when multiple folks pointed out ‘you’ve crossed the line’ or even simply had not posted to the thread again my opinion would be different. But he kept the fight going, long after he should have let it go. and that’s sad for all.
