Where to follow election night on-line

I don’t own a TV, so where is a good place on-line to follow the election? I do have e-subscriptions to WaPo and NYT, but I don’t care much for their breaking news coverage. So where are some good sites?

NPR will probably have good coverage on their website

Plus 1 for NPR!

Chances are that CNN will be live-streaming their coverage, which will be open to everyone at no cost. They always do this for important events. I recall watching the 2016 election results that way. Don’t remember about 2020.

CNN has recently been moving heavily towards a subscription service for their online content so all bets are off on this.

AP News usually has live (and free) updates running in real time on their website. Also, when AP calls something it’s a safe bet that they’re calling it correctly.

From interplanetary, or preferably interstellar space, on the way to another world with a civilization that isn’t trying to accelerate its own extinction through a succession of increasingly bad ideas like ignoring climate change, electing avowed demagogues, and threatening nuclear holocaust at the drop of a hat.

Just don’t forget your towel. And avoid getting picked up by Golgafrincham colony ships or Vogon constructor fleets, and especially anything with an Infinite Improbability Drive, which is quite plausibly responsible for the current state of affairs.

What have you got against Trillian?

The VP debate just this month was live-streamed free of charge, and before that, the presidential debate last month.

I’ll be following on the SDMB !

I remember there being a NY Times “needle” on Election Night 2016 that was crunching all the numbers and states and counties yet to report, etc. Once it flipped to “the bad side” later in the evening I knew we were screwed.

I don’t remember if they had it running in 2020, and I don’t know if it was for subscribers only. At the time I was a subscriber but I’m not anymore. YMMV.

“Oh no, not again!”

The cute astrophysicist I met at a party? She ran off with some jerk who walked up and said, “Hey, doll, is this guy boring you? Come talk to me, I’m from a different planet.” The odds I’ll ever see her again is virtually incalculable, at least as long as a the telephone number to an Islington flat.

In addition to the sperm whale, this is quite possibly what approximately slightly more than half of American, and most of Europe and Asia, will be thinking on November 6th.

“So long, and thanks…”

You can check You Tube for what’s available live either through news websites or there are some individuals who will be providing ongoing coverage during the night.

I’ll be watching the NYT. But due to early voting and how slowly some states process those votes, there’s an excellent chance we won’t know the results in important states for several days.

If you don’t want projections, and just want solid results:

This. I don’t want to see any talking heads. I don’t want to see any maps. I don’t want to see Nate Silver or Steve Kornacki if the news is bad. I will be upstairs in bed with my head under the covers following the election night follow-along thread until it’s safe to come out. And if it doesn’t get safe to come out, I’ll just stay there indefinitely.

Post/ Username combo winner!

Any major website like CNN should be having neat election moving-needle graphics. Always enjoyed those.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. Including the suggestions on the best way to leave the planet if the election goes the wrong way.

My guess is that the CNN homepage will still be available even without a subscription, and I’m sure the key metric (electoral vote count) will be visible.

You know, I don’t care much for NYT breaking news coverage either. I am also a subscriber but usually go elsewhere for better tea
