Which board avatars do you like?

Few of us are boring?

We’re cheap dates?

Limited impulse control?

Bad moon rising on the right?

Did you notice the suggestion upthread by somebody that you might flip your avatar so she’s facing to the right into the conversation, instead of to the left with her steel-reinforced back to the conversation?

What do you think of the idea? I think it might have merit unless it violates some secret taboo.

There’s certainly something bad rising on the right, but that’s a digression for a different forum / category.

Thank you! It’s a screenshot from his video “Foil,” and I just love the visual.

People who appreciate good avatars, are predisposed to having a custom one themselves? Or conversely, people who don’t care about avatars are the type of people who would avoid this thread.

To me, your avatar is decidedly average, but your username is quite possibly my favorite one on this whole board (the version before Discourse forcibly replaced spaces and commas with underscores).

[wanders off the change blue-winged mountain-tanager to something sexier like the trylon and perisphere]

In this thread, I like Troutman’s and Wolfpup’s. I think with the limitations we have in terms of size that simplicity and contrast are highly important. iiandyiiii’s new hippo is 100x better than the old hippo.

That would have been a cool username. Why didn’t I choose that one?

I chose it because I admire her so much, but it seems a little presumptuous now. I’ve been told I’m feisty, but I lack her courage, talent, and, well, just about everything else. Definitely not worthy of the name.

You people would be a lot of fun on a Rorschach test.

I like everyone’s avatars. They’re so clever! @Eyebrows_of_Doom, yours is one of my favorites.

(Bolding mine]

I hope so!

I’m of the opinion that icons should be iconic. Yin/Yang don’t need no bangles, spangles, or flair.

I find an avatar most effective if you never change it. Thus, it is always you. E.g. to me, the peace sign avatar is still @John_Mace and always will be. But someone else is using it now that John has gone away.

Besides cartoon characters, another type of avatar I like is the simple design, resembling a logo. Yours is good. Another nice one is @DMC, which I believe represents a neural net.

One that I particularly enjoy is @WOOKINPANUBv.2 ‘s. Eddie Murphy’s “Buckwheat” never ceases to make me laugh whenever I watch it.

Totally different reason, but I always want a bowl of cereal after reading a post by @purplehorseshoe

Damn, I had figured it was a selfie and you were that … interesting … of a character in real life.

Although I know you’re a firefighter/paramedic & those dudes have short hair, that’s now and the pic might have been you at a funner stage of life.

Actually, you’re reffed an inactive user. The guy with the cool sorta-Klingon face is @Eyebrows_0f_Doom where the word in the middle is spelled “zero eff”.

But I agree that he’s got a fine distinctive avatar. And a cool username, net of having to avoid the earlier squatter. (Or was that another case of losing access during the switchover from vBulletin?)

I had no idea that was Weird Al. It looks sort of Monty Python-esque and in that tiny size that could be mistaken for Eric Idle.

Thanks! It’s Hugo Weaving as Elrond from “The Lord of the Rings.” Yeah when I first signed up like 20 years ago that other name already existed (but wasn’t an actual poster, grr!) so had to go for the alternate spelling. It was less noticeable on VBulletin where capital O and 0 were identical.

I figured if it wasn’t @Superdude himself it was Dave Thomas aka Doug McKensie of the McKensie Brothers but wearing long hair for a skit.

Please! The McKenzie brothers are a vaunted Canadian institution and must not be defiled by being misspelled in some sort of ersatz Brit variant. It is spelled with a zed. Note that it is NOT spelled with a zee, which is not actually a letter at all, but a province in the Netherlands. Also a German word meaning “the”.

Crap. I even pulled up the article first to make sure I knew which of Bob & Doug I meant and the correct name of the actor. I totally missed the s/z thing.

My humblest apologies to all our fine northern neighbors. And especially to their two greatest cultural emissaries.

FTR playing their Twelve Days of Christmas immediately after putting up our tree is a LSLFamily tradition followed reverently every year. Nothing starts the season better than they can.

As an aside, I love the story of how the duo was created and became wildly popular. Doubly so when told in the dry understated style of wiki. It seems so much more Canadian that way.

Thank you! I wondered why the praise for a Discourse-generated E as an avatar.

For anyone who doesn’t know, @Eyebrows_0f_Doom uses Hugo Weaving as Elrond from the Lord of the Rings movies.
