Which board avatars do you like?

D’oh. Dang vision issues. Thanks for setting me straight.

I’m embarrassed to admit that at first I thought it was a Vulcan. During the pandemic I watched the entire LOTR trilogy for the first time since seeing it in theaters. And I blurted–I was alone, fortunately–“Hey, that’s the guy from the Dope!” Somewhere the ghost of Tolkien rolled its eyes.

I think all y’all’s avatars are too complex

Upturned eybrows, pointy ears, dark hair – it’s an understandable confusion.

Your avatar is splendid~graceful, executed sublimely, well proportioned for the use~ :star::star::star::star:

I know, I occasionally see the :peace_symbol: on threads and click thinking John’s back.

I’d never looked at it in close-up before, and thought it was some dude wearing a tinfoil hat.

Ha! The beams work!

I rather like @Lord_Feldon’s for the brief mind-screw.

Aww, thanks! That’s very nice of you to say.

(The check is in the mail.)

Technically, you’re correct…the best kind of correct!

Eric Idle made a video called “Foil”?

Not to my knowledge. If you click the word foil in my post you quoted, you’ll go to YouTube, and “Weird Al” Yankovic’s parody Foil will play.

I was half joking–it does look like Eric Idle. Also, you never said who it was. (Linking to a video to ID the person is like using a Rube Goldberg machine to flip a light switch. No need to be ambiguous).

(too late for edit)

@Superdude

Sorry about that last post. Please don’t be too bothered by it. I am trying to accept that the SDMB has changed and that YouTube links and links to photos and memes are considered by the majority of Dopers to be acceptable responses and acceptable posts in general now.

It’s hard for me to see the quality of discourse (heh) continue to sink towards Facebook level but I need to accept that it is my problem, not the Board’s.

@Superdude posted the link in response to a comment that said they like the person in the avatar, meaning they know who it is. You never asked who it was.

No worries. I didn’t realize that many people wouldn’t recognize the face, even in thumbnail size. I guess it was obvious to me, since I was the one who used it.

I’m a big fan of Sir Weird so I recognized it right off.

Jeez, glad I brought it up!

I recognized Weird Al the first time I saw your avatar. I guess it does look a bit like Eric Idle, but the flowing locks are the giveaway.

I don’t think we need a psychiatrist to tell us what your unconscious mind is thinking about…

I always wonder if that photo is right before “Mr. Wheat? - Kablam!!”

I knew it was Weird Al but I thought he was wearing a Viking helmet.

Yep, sometimes simple is the way to go.
