I watched Doctor Detroit last year because my friend had a VHS that showed a trailer for it. We’d never heard of it.
Yeah, not so great.

Leon (The Professional) woulda coulda shoulda had a sequel and almost does (Colombiana with Zoe Saldana playing the Natalie Portman role). I’d like to see where Matilda ended up and how her cleaning business is going 25 years later.
Seconded for The Fifth Element. We need more adventures in that big, beautiful universe. It doesn’t have to follow any of the film characters. Lots of potential directions to go in.
I have heard rumors over the years of a Demolition Man sequel. That could be really good if done right.
“Guy” even got a last name and titled position as the “plucky comic relief”!
Stranger
Did he? DID HE?!?!?
What is it? YOU DON’T KNOW!
I’m not kidding when I say more than one actor in that movie deserved Academy Award nominations. Being funny is very hard.
Sam Rockwell nailed every line he had, as did Alan Rickman.
“By Grabthar’s Hammer…what a savings.”
The Thin Man could be made into very fun modern movie I think.
Samurai Trilogy (based on the Musashi novels) could also be really fun.
Blind Fury. Rutger Hauer teaches a blind Afghan War veteran how to wield a sword.
(Yes, I am aware that Blind Fury is a re-make of a Japanese film that was part of a long series.)
Sorry this was disqualified by the OP and I didn’t read carefully enough
Might make a good TV series; probably about 62 episodes.
The deuce you say!
I don’t think we have to worry about David Carradine stealing the role from Sam Jackson anymore, either.
Al Pacino, playing a mysterious figure who strongly resembles John Milton from The Devil’s Advocate.
Robert de Niro, playing a mysterious figure who strongly resembles Louis Cyphre from Angel Heart.
One of them may or may not be a demon. One of them may or may not be an angel. We don’t find out which is which until the end. (And maybe not even then.)
I thought he became part of the Avengers.
Alternative idea for Blind Fury:
Rutger Hauer only has a brief cameo.
Our hero is rescued from the battlefield by modern descendants of the Assassins. He is taken to a remote mountaintop fortress, and trained in the Fighting Arts. Years later, he foils a plot to murder the Aga Khan.
For those of you unfamiliar with the folklore, the Assassins were the military arm of the Nizari branch of the Isma’ili branch of the Shi’a branch of Islam. The Nizaris still exist today. Their leader is the Aga Khan, who is the successor to the Old Man of the Mountain.
The Black Cauldron is based on a kids novel.
Not a sequel, but another film in the same universe might work. Maybe one of the characters coming back as a cameo.
Yes, I know that, but I don’t agree (in general) with washing all the color out of some kids movies to make them extra safe. I find the best of the modern Disney animated films keep at least some of the darkness of the original stories - such as Hunchback of Notre Dame (and my mention of Maleficent), and that I enjoyed (as a child) the dark elements of the Black Cauldron.
Mostly I would want Black Cauldron being remade, or sequels made, with a modern voice cast, a slightly more faithful story, and yet keeping the dark elements intact rather than having them toned down.
I’d enjoy another go-round of Time After Time (1979). Even though McDowell/Steenburgen have some years on ‘em, CGI could de-age them and make it fit the plot. Cumberbatch as the heavy this time around? Not a fan, but if he couldn’t pull it off, no one could.
