Which do you like better out of a Big Mac or Whopper?

Between just those two burgers? Whopper - hands down. I love the flame broiled taste and it’s just way too fun to say it. WHOPPER. Whopper. whopperwhopperwhopper.

I voted for the Whopper upthread, but I forgot to say: Whoppers aren’t anywhere near as good as they used to be. I don’t know what they’re doing to them now, but the meat doesn’t taste as good, there’s not as much cheese, and the bun is soggy like they steamed it.

When I was in college (in the '80s) I used to work at Burger King. We got free (or maybe it was just really cheap) food, so I ate a lot of Whoppers. I never got tired of them back then. Nowadays, I can only handle BK every once in a while.

I do like the new “SatisFries,” though. Not bad for lower fat fries. Still nowhere near the wonderfulness of McD’s fries, though.

I’m with Rob Base on this one. Few musicians weigh in on this debate, at least in their lyrics, but Base does so fearlessly in It Takes Two. The relevant passage is at 3:46-ish, in case I don’t get the link to work right.

In fact, I like the Whopper so much, I usually order it as a Double.

Actually, sweet relish is required on a non-gourmet hamburger. Just about anything is good except mayo.

If I have to eat at BK, I’ll get the Double Cheeseburger off the specials menu: 2 patties on an oval bun with BBQ sauce and onion rings.

Big Mac - all the way.

Damn there’s some picky eaters here. I like both signature fast food burgers. Tasty, easy, imperfect.

The Sourdough Jack is better, but variety is the spice of life, people.

I am qualified to come in because in theory I would love both.

When I was in middle school we always got out early on Wednesdays so the non-Catholics could come have CCD, and starting around sixth grade my friends and I would go to Burger King. I always got the Whopper and pretty much never had it in any other circumstances. In college my best childhood friend (who was in that group) died and I haven’t been able to have a Whopper since because I am scared of the sad nostalgia it would create.

I have only had a Big Mac once ever and I liked it, but there are others things on the McD menu that always win out.

So in theory I would love both but in practice I don’t think I am qualified to vote.

/more than you needed to know

Big Mac here. It’s funny, I HATE mayo. I don’t like Russian dressing but I like Special Sauce.

I dislike lettuce, so I don’t go for either of them. A double quarter-pounder, on the other hand…

Whopper. The only good thing at McDonald’s is their fries . . . and they aren’t what they used to be.

I like lettuce and tomatoes and pickles, but not in sandwiches. So I remove them and have a little “salad” before eating the burger.

Never tried pastrami but it is a must on hot dogs and I also like it on tuna.

Of course, green tomato relish is far superior to sweet pickle relish.

Huh? Big Macs don’t have mayo – I mean, the sauce may have it as an ingredient, but it’s not straight mayo. (I hate mayonaise too, but I loves me some special sauce!)

I love Big Macs! Except for the pickles, which are easily removed. My only complaint is that they’re messy as hell.

I am pleased to be associated with a Board on which a full two-thirds of members have good taste.

Yep, that’s exactly it for me. On another board I few years ago, I mentioned how their burgers always tasted to me like they’ve been doused with lighter fluid, to which a poster replied perfectly: “I have long been convinced that Burger King seeks to evoke nostalgia for barbecue made by dads who put the food on before the lighter fluid has had a chance to burn off.” That’s pretty much exactly how it tastes to me.

I tend to agree. My one mayo and sweet relish exception is the special sauce on an In-N-Out. That’s the only one. Otherwise, no mayo or relish on my burgers. Yes, I realize I’m voting for the Big Mac in this poll, but that’s because it’s up against Burger King. So, it’s a vote with some reservations. Now, the quarter pounder with cheese. That’s where it’s at for McD’s. Or the McDouble. Standard non-gourmet burger for me is ketchup, mustard, onions, and pickle (preferably dill.) That’s my Platonic ideal fast food burger.

But it is similar to mayo so I am surprised I like it.

My go to burger was the whopper for decades, but now that burger king has taken the broilers out of their restaurants they’ve become pretty meh. Not only are their burgers no longer flame-broiled, they don’t seem to be grilled either, I think they are actually microwaved. To me, this move was marketing suicide, without the attraction of flame broiling burger king sales are plummeting.

I don’t really have a go to burger anymore. If forced to eat in a fast food restaurant I’ll typically get a chicken sandwich or something. The big mac has always been a horrifying travesty.

Of the two, I prefer the Big Mac.

Although neither compares to a (actually) flame-grilled Steers burger (a local chain).

I’ve heard this said a few times, but their web menu specifically says over and over that they are “Fire-Grilled.”

Well, their stock has climbed from $15.85 to $27.26 over the past 5 years. Their very top price was in March of this year.
