Which of the following blog domains do you like best?

I’m about to reserve two domain names, one for a work blog (encouraged by my Dean to do so) and the other a personal blog. Here are the names I’m considering:

for work- I’m a librarian and an ancient history enthusiast. The Serapeum was the temple complex of which the Library of Alexandria was originally a part. serapeum.com is not available, but I’m thinking of one of these (which as of this writing are all available):

new-serapeum.com
serapeum-two.com
serapeumblog.com
For the personal I’m considering the following:

theduckandcovertavern.com- from the Cold War advice to “duck and cover”, but I like the graphic potentials (a duck and a cloak, or a duck and a house, etc., on an English pub sign)

constantinoplestreet.com (or constantinople-street.com), from the address of my favorite fictional character , and it also has a Byzantine imagery (and I could hide the secret portions under constantinoplestreet.com/procopius

circlebrunetto.com- after the circle in hell continually power-walked by the old professor Brunetto the Sodomite in Dante’s Seventh Circle (Brunetto is actually perhaps the most likeable, certainly the most sympathetic, character in hell- thanks Dante)

Which ones do you like, please?

Personally I dislike (and can’t remember, more to the point) domain names that have a hyphen.

new-serapeum.com
serapeum-two.com
serapeumblog.com

So of those three, I would choose the last one. Otherwise I would also be trying newserapeum.com or serapeum-two.com

One more thing to keep in mind is that with the first two, the original holder may think you are trying to camp in on their name and get a bit gruff.

For your personal sites, I personaly think all the names are too long. See if you can come up with something shorter.

With everyone trying to get their domain names memorable, yours arent (to me). Do’t take it personally. If I was interested in your writings I might recall what the name is as connected to the subject matter, but as I’m not interested in your subject matter they aren’t memorable to me.

Hmm.

There’s also sampiro.com. It’s not my real name, but it does have a ring to it.

I like new-serapeum.com (sounds more graceful than the others, somehow) and theduckandcovertavern.com, also for the graphic possibilities.

for your work blog, why not be completely classical with something like “neoserapeum”?

How about these:

thisblogismyblog.com

nontraditionalvalues.com

familyvaluesandhotgaysex.com (it is available, but I doubt I’d use it)

blogcred.com

Also available: bestdamnedblogever.com (though a bit too fratboyish for my taste)

I like sampiro.com and thisblogismyblog.com. Simple, easy-to-remember domains (if they are still available).

Hyphens, long sentences, weird phrases – all too hard to remember, IMHO.
