When you’re snuggling spoon-style, do you prefer to be the front or the back spoon?
And why?
p.s. Do you know how hard it was to NOT include a poll option for “I prefer to fork?”
I don’t know that I could give you a why. I just enjoy holding someone.
I prefer to scissor (me timbers).
But really. I’m a fairly tall guy, and my wife is short and petite. So I’m the back spoon. I don’t think it could possibly work any other way.
Just to be Mr. pointing out flaws in your poll guy, there’s an issue of sexuality that isn’t covered. This issue could provide responses that vary along an axis you hadn’t considered.
Female. I’m just not tall enough to spoon with my chin on a shoulder or snuggled into a neck, so I end up with a face-full of spine. Which isn’t bad, but it doesn’t feel as close and intimate. I prefer being the front spoon, with my sweetie’s head near mine.
Um…do I really need to draw a picture? With the female as the front spoon, the male can wrap a hand around the interesting things on a female’s front, while the male’s interesting bits are snuggled nicely against or between the comfy bits on the female’s backside, where she can be instantly made aware of any changes in the state of readiness of said bit. Plus he can throw his leg over (you always wondered where that phrase came from, didn’t you?) and kind of pull her close, while nibbling on her neck.
God, I miss spooning!
Male and it depends. My SO and I trade places depending on our mood. If it’s with someone else, it depends on the dynamics of the situation and their size relative to me.
I didn’t vote in the poll, but I find it simply extraordinary that the Female ‘prefer front’ and the Male ‘Prefer Back’ options are both gender majorities and standing at 30% each.

Oh, I definitely considered that, but I decided to be a tool of the heteronormative hegemony and just leave it out of the poll.
Really, I just didn’t want to make it too complicated. I figured that our friends who bat for the other team would discuss any relevant issues in the thread itself.

I’m female with a strong preference for being the back spoon, by the way. It’s like having a human teddy bear. With a penis.
For what it’s worth, I don’t find there to be any problem with having a much bigger person as a front spoon.
We’re talking about sleeping, not foreplay, right? Our “default” position is him in back with his arm over me and his junk snuggled up to my butt. This is his preferred position and he would be happy to stay like that all night, but I need to alternate sides, so I’ll nudge him until he rolls over. My head only comes to the middle of his back when my knees are spooned with his, but I can put my arm around his belly or cup his jewels so it’s all good.
We’re talking about snuggling and anything else you like to do while snuggling, including sleeping, foreplay, posting to the SDMB, etc.
Mr. Levins is too tall for me to spoon effectively; I have to be the front spoon. I’m 5’10" and he’s 6’2" which, combined with the fact that he’s got wide shoulders and outweighs me by about fifty lbs or so, means it just doesn’t really work the other way around. (Although I do like hugging him that way.)
I just want a realistic explanation for why guys are always so much HOTTER than girls. Like these big male furnaces. All of my girlfriends swear it’s true with their guys, too. Where is this heat coming from?
I just gave my boyfriend a card that shows a couple in bed and says, “I like it when we spoon” on the front and “but I love it when we fork” on the inside. 
I wind up being the front spoon most of the time, which I suspect is because it’s easier to tickle me that way.
Male here. I hate spooning unless I’m the little spoon. Not that I go crazy for being the little spoon, either, it’s just more tolerable to me. Unfortunately all the girls I’ve been with expected me to enjoy holding them while they sleep. It’s uncomfortable, damn it!

We flop back and forth all night. I really enjoy the transitions.
Ha! It’s the opposite here. I had an ex that would (jokingly) pick my leg up when we were snuggling to make sure he wasn’t burnt 
It gets even worse if I’ve been sleeping.
I generally don’t like to spoon (I get too hot), but I prefer to be the big spoon for two reasons: it’s not as warm, and I HATE having someone breathing by my ears/face.
