(Old) White Out! The Official Start Of Summer MMP

I got bounced around a bit today. There were also a lot of Left in Building stuff, because everybody forgot to throw their missorts on the belt. Also, I have jury duty next week, after 55 years of avoiding it.

Yes, I enjoy pairing silence with my coffee.

I had to look this up - an appropriate name!

A nice young woman just came over an bought all my canning jars and tools. She’s just starting out with canning and I haven’t made jam in at least 4 or 5 years. So score for both of us! FB Marketplace for the win!

And our vacation is starting to look iffy - FCD has been having a lot of problems with his legs and, naturally, he refuses to go to a doctor. We’re pretty sure it’s the spinal cord injury he sustained back in 2019, but it’s been getting lots worse lately. I bought trip insurance, but I’m not sure if it covers our airfare - I need to look into that.

Dammit.

Crap!! Big hugs & :crossed_fingers:

Yeah, so… The Procedure is Friday. I’ll have a shredded beef taco salad for dinner. Breakfast will be a couple of eggs and maybe some toast. Then Colon Blow™, and clear liquids the rest of the day. Then get up at 04:00 Friday for more Colon Blow™ and water.

I just got an email from my periodontist. Apparently I have an appointment on Wednesday. I just went to the dentist a week or so ago!

Airfare is refundable, so that’s good. And I bought the better cruise insurance so we’ll get back 90% of our fare plus all of the excursions we paid for. I can cancel the hotel up to 24 hours ahead and we won’t get charged. So it’ll still cost us around $4k or so between the insurance premium and the “deductible” but it’s way better than losing it all.

So now I know. I just had a feeling…

Cancelled. I don’t need an evaluation for a new implant.

I am super jealous, I love smoked salmon and am willing to bet that the fresh-from-the-source is the best there is.

The problem with that is that you will make him sound safe and comfortable when he really wants them to think he’s dashing and mysterious.

I don’t know why any home would have them, we had them in a couple of rooms here when we moved in.

I’ll bet she was thrilled to get them. Hurray for you both!

Dang about FCD, and bigger dang about not seeing a doctor. Make him go anyhow, it will be easier to explain an old crippled man falling overboard than murderizing him at home would be.

Mine is as well. I sure do know which one of us is looking forward to their more. I’m scheduled to arrive at 0815 which works out well. Hubs can eat a good breakfast at home while I pretend to sleep (HA!) before heading out the door. I won’t mind the no breakfast thing, I usually don’t eat first thing in the morning. The no coffee thing is going to hurt so I’d rather try to sleep as late as possible so I don’t sit around feeling sorry for myself.

Today Hubs took me to Walgreens to pick up my prescription and I wanted to look at cheap sun glasses. My current glasses aren’t photo-gray and my old photo-gray glasses are pretty scratched up.

He suggest clip-ons because I’ll still want the correction in my left eye, but those all seemed to clip on the edge of the lenses and I won’t have one on the right side. I did find big sunglasses that are designed to be worn over regular glasses which made me happy. I didn’t know that they were a thing, I’m learning all sorts of things now that I’m firmly in geezerhood.

It’s been raining most of the day and just felt like a chicken soup day. I tossed stuff in the crock pot and just gave it the ol’ taste test and the broth is perfect. I never get it right the first time, I always have to go back with the spices or at least salt, so I’m pretty happy about that. Of course, I don’t remember what I did, so it will never happen again LOL!!!

Yeah, I start irking at 0600, and it’s usually after eight before I think I should eat something. Coffee…? I make two pots per day. The nurse said I could have one cuppa joe tomorrow. I told her my travel mug is 30 ounces. She said, ‘We’ll just keep that between us.’

Wifey, RN asked the nurse’s name. I couldn’t remember it, but I described what she sounded like. She said that it sounds like one of her students from when she was teaching CMA classes. (Her student was at this gastro office when she went for her own anal probe.)

I still think, and keep saying, the doctor and anaesthesiologist should be wearing grey alien masks when their patients wake up. :alien: :alien:

@Johnny_L.A : Good about the inspection cancellation. The only thing worse than an appointment at one end is back-to-back appointments at both ends.

Tue I get my quarterly blood draw first thing and spend the afternoon getting my 10 front lower teeth ground down some and temp crowns installed. Such fun.

So not both ends, but still two departments.

If that starts to look likely, let me know via DM. I don’t know if it’s possible / practical but I might be able to sub for you two and buy you out at no loss.

I haven’t followed your trip planning in detail so I don’t know where or when or on who. But it sounds fun.

I really hope you can do this as planned. But if not, let me know before accepting a $4K shellacking.

Thanks - as of now, he insists he’s still good to go, but he is a bit worried. I heard him listening to a video talking about special treatment geezers can get when going thru TSA and getting around in the airport and on the plane. So it’s on his mind. Fingers crossed and all that.

Our flights are on British Airways but we booked via American Airlines. And we had to pay BA extra so we could get the seats we wanted - what a racket! Anyway, if we do have to cancel, I guess we’ll need to contact both airlines. But like I said - fingers crossed.

We got Chinese delivered for supper. The place where we order cracks me up. We get an email saying delivery will be in [50-65] minutes, but it always shows up in less than 30. Not a big deal for us, but still tickles me. Today, they said 4:52. It got here at 4:20. So we ate early. Like proper RDOS folk!

Nice thing about the restaurant, tho - we get 2-3 meals out of each serving. They are most generous!

Um, where do I start? Many things happened while I was gone. FCM, I’m so glad that you can do the refund, but I’m hoping you won’t need it.

Pilot, what you’ve described sounds just exhausting. Especially being there for 8 hours.

Oh, and unions… I’ve only been in teacher’s unions. The last one tried to help me somewhat, but mental health is a touchy subject everywhere.

It’s been quite a day for us. We started out at one facility and then they sent us to the ER to get some paperwork filled out that was supposedly incomplete and supposedly their fault. After about 30 minutes they told us that we were actually supposed to be at the place where we started. We got an appointment for there at 2 and went to lunch in the meantime.

Lunch was not great. The ham in my sandwich was 50% salt it seemed. Then we went to the appointment. He was in there for almost 1 1/2 hours. They did an exam and determined that he needed to be on light duty until at least a week from today. I’m very glad about that and so is he. Not sure what they’re going to have him do all day, but whatever works.

I’ve got another interview going for a part-time position that is online tutoring. I’d honestly rather have 5 part-time jobs than one full-time position. I guess we’ll see.

For several years, I’ve been planning to write to my favorite classical music hosts. The one at Ball State University’s station retired while I was procrastinating. Now that I live in Elkhart, I do my classical NPR listening on Interlochen Public Radio in Michigan, and I finally got around to writing to Fred Child of Performance Today, today.

I wrote about getting goosebumps from hearing the near-operatic play Robert and Elizabeth, a play about the Brownings’ love story. I wrote about Sisyphus, the brilliant piano piece from Pink Floyd’s Richard Wright. I wrote about the Edgar Meyer composition built around The Trout Variations. And, finally, I wrote about the soaring works of Harry Nillsson. There. I’m glad I got that off my to-do list, and into your brain. I hope I didn’t bore you terribly, but at least it didn’t take as long for you to read it as it took me to write it.

Its not summer til I see a lightning bug.
It is to be in the 80s next week so they shall arrive.

And a good early evening all. Swimming was swum, gym was gymmed, and weights of varying amounts were moved, so that killed the balance of the afternoon. Came home and found the dishwasher I had thought I had turned on so it would do its work while I was out…was off, so dishes are washing now. Pre-exercise I stopped at my bank and got 100 British pounds and 110 Euros for my trip next month (it’ll be here Monday). Probably won’t all that much, my cards will do most of the work, but hey, I’m old and I like having cash in my pocket. Figured I’d get as good a rate of exchange there as anywhere. Cheeseburger has been devoured along with pudding cups and Cheetos for dessert. Sloth and internettin’ now beckon.

FCM, I’ll try drinking water instead, but somedays I drink a lot of soda and have to go every couple of hours and other days I drink the same amount of soda and only have half the amount of…output. It is a puzzlement… And whenever I have an attack of productivity, I sit down until it goes away…

And hope FCD uses some common sense (which appears to be uncommon these days) and gets checked out.

I belonged (I guess) to the Government Union (AFGE), but I never remember attending a meeting or paying any dues to it, so maybe not. My dad was in the trucking industry so he was with the Teamsters, even worked for them for awhile but tired quickly of the corruption and went back to being a dock manager.

I read that as “and other catamites” which is definitely the wrong way to see it… :scream:

Taters, I concur that some canine training will help, right now they are reinforcing their behaviors (IMHO of course). And all my ceiling fans and a couple of others are boob lights (I had to look that up, but it’s a perfect name for them).

Coppertone. I’ve cut way back on my eating out (usually it’s Sunday dinner and the two meals of Monday only) and it’s helped. Hope you can score some T.P..

doggio, happy jurist duty; have never been called in my 72 years, may never get the chance now.

Sticky Buns, glad the appointment went well, salty ham or not. Good luck on the job hunt.

Knots, have never written a fan letter as far as I can remember, but yours sounds like a good one that the recipient will truly appreciate.

And I’m pretty much worn out, so R&R is next on the agenda. Have a good evening folks.

A 9 pack was hand delivered!:roll_of_paper:

Up from naptime, watching hockey with a martini. Dinner is chicken and pasta with white sauce.

Ape masks. “Hello, Bright Eyes.”

Dammit.

Ah, the Old People Shades!

I hope you sent a dime, so he could buy a lime.

Qapla’!

That would have been better for Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams.

Ker-plop!

Howdy Y’all! Been home a while but needed a little chill time. We had buffalo chikin pasta, rolls, fresh fruit, which included fresh pineapple, rolls, and strawberry shortcake. YUM! I attended a VBS meetin’ (it’s next week!), and other Verger and I discussed food and snacks for the rugrats. We’re doin’ dawgs with chips Moanday, pizza and lasagna Tuesday, and tacos Wednesday. There will also be sallit and fruit each night. Desserts will be cookies Moanday, brownies Tuesday, and ice cream Wednesday. Snacks will be “outer space” themed and will be prepared by a volunteer each night. Thursday the crumbsnatchers will be herded to the planetarium and will get ickfila. I don’t have to deal with that. Tomorrow is Ascension Day and I got talked into servin’ chalice. I am sure all ten people who show up will appreciate the effort. Seriously any more than ten, and I am includin’ Baby Priest, other Verger and me as part of the ten, will surprise me. OYKW has already said a big nope.

I will be there Tuesday.
