Who are our current "Abe Vigodas"? (people you might be surprised to learn are still alive)

I can never remember if Chevy Chase is dead, or just his career.

Gene Shalit’s mustache has a place in history all it’s own.

he died right after his first movie with Goldie Hawn

I never found him funny and am always baffled why anyone liked him, but not dead yet.

My HS Film Arts teacher would have put Chevy Chase in the same category as Marion Morrison and Gary Cooper: he is a non-actor. He only plays one role and never tries to stretch his ability beyond that. His best performance was probably in a little movie called Hero, but then, they used him correctly: less than ten minutes of screen time, if even that.

I feel like the only time Chevy Chase was really key to a movie was in Christmas Vacation. Maybe the other vacation movies, but he certainly did a great job in Christmas vacation.

Jeremiah S. Chechik directed that movie and really got a solid performance from him. I wonder if they got along. I mean…few get along with Chevy Chase. Beverly D’Angelo does, though.

I recently saw a sports story regarding New York honoring Willie Mays on his 90th birthday. Willie was a star in the fifties and sixties, and I always assume he had passed on by now.

He was a person I was clueless about as a kid. I remember in the 80’s he turned up in an episode of, I think, “My Two Dads” and I had thought he played back with Babe Ruth. I was blown away he was alive, mainly because I had no memory of him.

And, now that he has reached 90, it is magnified quite a bit.

Is he controversy free? I’ve never heard any negativity about Mays.

Nope, no controversy about Say Hey Willie. A fantastic ballplayer and generally regarded as a genuinely nice guy and a gentleman.

Wasn’t he shown to be a Warlock in an episode of Bewitched?

Yes, but he still played himself. He wasn’t evil. Being a warlock explained his baseball abilities.

Yes, indeed. He was in the court of Samantha, Queen of the Witches. Darrin was gobsmacked when he wandered into one of their sessions and recognized him.

That was probably considered to be a transgressive moment at the time. The witches/warlocks after all, had repeatedly been shown to consider themselves to be far superior to any mortal.

The funniest thing Chase has been involved in is Stephen Colbert roasting him:

That was awesome.

It was kind of uncomfortable to watch but hearing all the bad stories about Chevy Chase he really deserved it.

I was sureprised (that was a bad spelling but I kinda like it) to discover that George Maharis is still with us.

The woodblock app inventor? He’s pretty young.

Chevy Chase also “sings” in the music video for Paul Simon’s You Can Call Me Al. He was pretty unobjectionable in there, I think.

Some comments are good. Some are great. But yours was simply Perfecto.
