If the movie Radar and the TV Radar don’t die on the same day it’s gonna be weird.
And you left the Father Mulcahys off the list. William Christopher died in 2016 and Rene Auberjonois died in 2019 - another case of the movie actor outliving the TV actor. (George Morgan, who played the character in the TV pilot, outlived both of them and died in 2022.)
Heh. He’s on my Themed Celebrity Death Pool list, along with 12 other former NFL coaches. So I’m at least partially responsible for his continued existence.
I just watched a YouTube video about celebrity WWII veterans who are still alive.
William Daniels (age 96)
Roger Corman (age 97)
Stanley Baxter (age 97)
Mel Brooks (age 97)
Norman Jewison (age 97)
Dick Van Dyke (age 97)
Mike Nussbaum (age 99)
Norman Lear (age 101)
Of this group, I’d bet that people are most surprised about:
Roger Corman
Norman Lear
I think their heyday of being relevant has long gone, but they are still kicking. Here is Roger Corman picking movies in the Criterion Collection just 10 days ago:
The surprise for me was William Daniels. I remember him from shows back in the eighties like Knightrider and St Elsewhere but I didn’t realize he was 96. If you had asked me, I would have guessed he was in his forties back then and in his eighties now.
Matthew Perry’s death got me thinking of the Friends reunion special from a couple of years ago.
I was surprised when Larry Hankin, who played downstairs neighbor Mr. Heckles, made an appearance. His character died in 1996, when Hankin was 57 years old, but he seemed much older. He’s been a very busy character actor for many decades, still working at 85.
Perhaps a little off topic but I was thinking of the song/video “Obsession” from back in the eighties. I checked out the video on YouTube and I confirmed that it was extremely eighties.
So I was astonished to see that the band Animotion is still performing forty years later.
Seriously? He’s been in the news pretty much continuously since the Beatles hit it big. Last year he won an Emmy and headlined the Glastonbury Festival, and released a new Beatles song only yesterday, to major media fanfare. You’d have to have been actively avoiding all mainstream and entertainment news for many, many years to assume that he’s dead.
I guess so! I got entertainment news from youtube mostly, frankly never saw his recent works but sometimes it will a ‘let it be’ on the homepage. I must miss thumbnail of new the Beatles song yesterday.
What? Any Beatle, even though we only have two, would be massive news if they died. I don’t know anyone who is confused if Paul and Ringo are alive or if George and John aren’t.
Aha! tbh as a late 80s millennials, I don’t know the name of drummer in the Beatles before I searching Paul McCartney whether not dead, and never saw any news about the drummer. I thought Paul was the only one alive after 2000s and rest of they all dead before I born! The last time I read the news about Paul was he did something with Apple, iPod I guessed?
