Who doesn't have these things...

  1. TV. 3 tv’s. 2 of them hardly get used.
  2. Radio. One small boombox. I have an old stereo in the garage. It records 8 tracks.
  3. Cell phone. Never leave home without my cell phone.
  4. Pager. Broke it putting a new case on it. That is why I now have a cell phone.
  5. VCR/DVD. 1 VCR and 1 video player. Don’t watch enough movies to warrant the cost of a DVD player.
  6. Video game. Nope. Never had one.
  7. Computer accesories. 4 in 1 printer, copier, scanner, fax machine. I also have a digital camera and camcorder.
  8. Computer. I have mine and my wife has my old one. She never uses it.
  1. I have a television, but I don’t have the DVD and VCR. It just sits there, never turned on.
  2. Does my car count? Other than that, it’s a clock radio. Well, several clock radios that get distributed around the house to be just clocks once they reach that stage in a clock radio’s life where they no longer function reliably as alarm clocks.
  3. No cell phone.
  4. No pager.
  5. Nope.
  6. Nope.
  7. No printer (I recently tossed my Tandy laser printer). I do have a 12 year old Logitech Scanman hand scanner that I suppose I could hook up to this computer (I’m not sure appropriate drivers exist).
  8. Yes, more than one. This I will upgrade (again) before too long.
  1. Television: I don’t own my own television, but we have 3 in our house and have given away about 2.
  2. Stereo: We have 2 stereo systems, 1 boombox and 2 walkmans.
  3. Cell phone: I own one, and there are 2 others in the household.
  4. Pager: 0
  5. Video playback/recording device: 1 DVD player, 3 VCR players, 1 laser disc player.
  6. Video game console: None. We used to have a N64 and Supernintendo, but I think mum gave them away. We also used to have a Famicom which I miss dearly now. :frowning:
  7. Computer accessories: 2 scanners (1 broken), 2 printers (used to be 4), and a prospective digital camera.
  8. Your own computer: Everyone in our house (4 people) has their own computer. Helps to keep the peace. Unfortunately, only 3 can go online at the same time.
  1. One TV, 13", about 15 years old. Kids watch Nick Jr in the mornings and the occasional video in the afternoons or evenings. If/when it dies, it’ll be a hard sell to get me to replace it.

  2. Nice stereo, with tape decks, 7 CD magazine, radio, and turntable (yes, I have vinyl and like to listen to it!). Also have aportable CD boombox for the kitchen or car. My car has no stereo or radio.

  3. Absolutely not. I am the only person I know without a cell phone.

  4. No pager. No need for one. I don’t have a job that needs me “right now”.

  5. DVD player in son’s computer (it was a gift, hasn’t been used for DVD’s yet as we don’t have any). VCR with TV, about 10 years old or thereabouts. We watch maybe one movie every two months (husband and I).

  6. Um, I have a 8 bit Nintendo. It’s hooked up and my kids play it once in a while. I also have an atari 2600 but that’s broken. Lots of computer games.

  7. Color inkjet, b/w laser printers. Scanner. CDRW, CD drive, speakers, web camera (not used). Also have a camcorder and a fax machine.

  8. We have 7 computers. 2 are for the kids (a Mac and a PC), one is a laptop, the rest are for the adults. Of the 4 remaining, 3 are Linux and one is a Windows machine.

[ul][li]One ordinary TV and an ancient VCR. No DVD.[/li][li]Used to have a cell phone but no more. Want another one.[/li][li]No pager. Don’t want one.[/li][li]One old laptop and old desktop computer at work that are essentially mine. One newer computer at home.[/li][li]Scanner, digital camera, GPS unit (to work with laptop).[/ul][/li]I’m geeky enough that I can’t get to sleep tonight. Tomorrow I’m getting my Rutgers-built 2.4 GHz, 1 G RAM NIC. No more Tower of Limited Power for me!

  1. I Have a Television
  2. I have a discman and my DJ station which I double together as a stereo whenever I want.
  3. I dont have enough friends to need a cell phone.
  4. See three.
  5. I have a VCR and a DVD player.
  6. I have a playstation and a playstation 2.
  7. I dont have any of the accessories that you listed and Im not really sure what would go in this category and not in 8.
  8. I have my boxen.

So Im a computer geek who doesnt have enough friends, but I dont really watch very much tv anymore (besides movies). However I am horribly addicted to computer and video games so those take up my tv time.

I have a 10 yo TV, and old VCR that doesn’t record or keep time. I keep it to watch videos (rarely). I do, however, get premium cable and go without meals to pay for it. I have an old stereo with a record player (!) and I’ve jacked in a CD player into it for those rare occasions I find music worth listening to.
NO, NO, NO cell phone, pager or other hideous device that would provide yet another opportunity for people to contact me. I have an answering machine – if it’s important, I’ll get back to you. And there’s always e-mail. Ditto with game players. Don’t have time for them and have no use for them.
I’ve got my own computer with a scanner. The computer is 4 years old and works fine. I make my living on the computer – for me it isn’t a toy so it isn’t loaded with a lot of stuff. Just work stuff.

I don’t have a pager or a game console.

I have two cell phones (work and personal), but no home (landline) phone.

I’m very fond of music, and I’ve recently got a couple of fairly cheapish hi-fis in additional to my “proper” gear. I now have good quality tunes in my lounge, in the kitchen/dining room and the bedroom, i.e. every room in the house that I spend a reasonable amount of time in. I’ve also recently got a freebie clockwork radio for use in the garden. I can’t express how cool it is to be able to listen to the music you want to, with it sounding right, wherever you are in your home. In fact the ten year old, fourteen-inch telly almost never gets watched nowadays, and that’s no bad thing. Other than that I have a mobile phone, which I find useful, a VCR, but no DVD, a playstation and a PC with no toys apart from a CD burner and a printer.

Rats,

double-post, sorry.

Browser trouble again.

Oh mod, dear mod, would you be so good as to delete one of the above?

J.

  1. television
I have 3, but I don’t use one of them so it doesn’t count according to the OP, and I respect his rules!
Actually, I would use it, but the genius who designed my flat only put in one aerial connection, and a portable aerial just doesn’t cut it where I live. I also have a hand held TV that sits in my desk drawer at work, and gets used infrequently (I think September 11th was the last time. It’s for that sort of reason I keep it there.)

  2. stereo
2 large Hi-Fis, 2 boomboxes, 2 Walkmans, a personal radio, and a minidisk player. (Can you tell I listen to a lot of music?!)

  3. cell phone
I have 2 of these! Let me explain - I bought a new one recently, and converted the old one to pay-as-you-go. It is an emergency back up only.

  4. pager
Nope! With 2 cell phones, I hardly need a pager!

  5. Video playback/recording device
3 VCRs (only one set up) and a DVD player.

  6. video game console
I have a PSX, but it doesn’t get used much.

  7. computer accessories
    Printer and a scanner.

  8. your own computer
    Yup, using it right now.

OK - I’m a gadget freak, I admit it! Is there some sort of 12-step program I can enrol in?

For a family of five:

Five tvs ranging from humonguous to handheld plus two VCRs and Four DVD players [two computers have DVD players, XBox and simple DVD player]
Two Stereos plus five or six walkmen
Three cells phones - four phone lines and four phones
No pager - dumbest thing on earth when you have a cellphone with caller id
One Cibyko, XBox, DreamCast, Nintendo, GameBoy, GameBoy Color
Computer gotta haves such as digital camera and scanner
Two desktop computers
FAX machine
One handheld video camera but I wish I bought a digital one

No, I don’t work at home. I live with three teenagers and Mr kiffa lives in Africa while we are here in the US.

I have a pager. My job required that I have it. But I let the batteries run down and didn’t replace them. And I keep the damn thing in my briefcase. I figure if they can’t reach me by phone or e-mail when I’m not in my office, they don’t really need me. So far, so good.
I also don’t have a game console. I don’t do computer games other than a little online solitaire, etc. Hey! I’m a grownup!
But I have all the other stuff.

  1. television: I don’t own one, and for the past three years have done without. But in April I moved into a new place and now I find myself watching my roommate’s TV a lot :frowning:

  2. stereo: Got it.

  3. cell phone: I hated them until I got one in November. Now I love it and don’t even have a home phone anymore.

  4. pager: Nope. No point with the cell phone.

  5. Video playback/recording device: Nope. Now if only my roommate had one…

  6. video game console: Nope. Same as above.

  7. computer accessories such as scanners, digital camers, etc.: The only real accessories I have are a printer and a Zip drive. Everything else I can use at work.

  8. your own computer: I have a computer, but I use the laptop which belongs to my employer a lot more, even when I’m at home.

  1. television: yep

  2. stereo: yep, including a Walkman

  3. cell phone: nope

  4. pager: nope

  5. Video playback/recording device: yep (VCR & DVD)

  6. video game console: yep (Playstation)

  7. computer accessories such as scanners, digital camers, etc.: I’ve got an inkjet printer and a scanner. Don’t have a digital camera, CD-RW, or DVD-RW drives though.

  8. your own computer: yep (a very nice Dell)

** TV **–Buy cheap used ones to support my news, soap and Simpsons addictions.

** CD player **–Buy cheap Discmans. My current one cost $20 at the Broadway Flea Market in 2000. Use the money I don’t spend on my massive CD collecton. Over 500.

** Cell phone **–Have one at work, which I take home at night. Don’t have a home phone.

** Pager ** Nope.

** VCR, etc **–Office has color TV with VCR and my work computer has a DVD player.

** Gameboy, etc **–Nope

** Computer **–At the office.

I don’t have a stereo because I hardly ever listen to music. No cell phone or pager either because I have no need for one and would find them to be a nuisance. I wish I had more computer accessories (I could put a scanner to good use), but I just never get around to getting them because they aren’t high-priority items.

I can think of another gadget not on your list. How about PDA’s, like a Palm Pilot or Pocket PC? It seems like everyone I know has one (even my parents, who don’t know how to use their VCR), but I don’t. Just don’t need it. I am in the market for one though, for my wife.
