Who else is working christmas eve?

Well, I’m house-sitting/dog-sitting for a friend, just as I do every Christmas, so I have to stay overnight for the doggie’s sake, but I can see the fam on Christmas day.

I don’t know if you’d actually call this work, although my pal does pay me to do it.

At one of my jobs, I work Monday through Friday, regardless of whether those days are holidays or not. So I get to work on every Monday holiday the rest of the US has off; I always have to work on Thanksgiving; I’ve worked most Christmas Eves and Christmas Days, too. Because Christmas is on a Saturday this year, though, I’ll get to spend it with my family.

You get used to it after a while. I’ve been doing it for going on 24 years now.

I am off from my state job Christmass Eve and New Years Eve but I will be doing my DJ gig both nights at a small bar. They normally close at 2 but I have a feeling I will be there later

Rutgers closes down between Christmas Eve and New Years, but I may go in if we can’t get a colleague’s laptop a satellite internet connection before the 24th (pleasepleaseplease Sprint, come through with the access code tomorrow). Actually, I don’t mind because the place is pretty quiet, and I’ve got plenty of work to do. Plus it gives me an excuse to do some last minute furtive Christmas shopping on the way home.

Well, I worked at JCPenney for the past three years so when i finally left i thought I was done with working on xmas eve.

Not so. This year i shall be working xmas eve.

It doesn’t bother me though. I’m off on the actual day and the day after so it’s all good.

Hah, got ya beat. The deli I work in closes earlier. I’m working 10:00am to 6:00
With a craptacular job like mine, any reason to gloat is a good one. :frowning:

I like working xmas eve. I work in an upscale retail store, and the frantic husbands who just remembered that they do, indeed, have to get their wife something spectacular, all rush in. Its fun to help people when price isn’t an object, just time and convenience. Its fun to help most people anyway, but that added element is guaranteed on xmas eve.

But I like my crap job. Getting paid to help people shop!

I’m working a half-day on Xmas Eve - but that’s OK coz as a freelancer, that’s an extra half-day’s pay that I wouldn’t otherwise have!!

(I’m a sound engineer/video editor BTW…)

I’m working Christmas eve. I have no other plans and work alone any way, so why not?

I normally work until at least noon on Christmas Eve. Unless it’s newspaper deadline day. Then I’m sometimes stuck here until 5. Since Christmas is on a Saturday this year, we were given the choice to take off either Christmas Eve or the following Monday as our paid holiday. I’m taking Friday. I plan to make snack mix and fruit salsa with cinnamon chips (a new recipe) for Christmas day, finish wrapping gifts, and watch the Vikings/Packers game before heading over to my grandma’s for Christmas Eve dinner.

My husband will probably end up working until 3 or 4. He’s in sales for a cellular phone company.

Working 8am to (hopefully) 1pm on the 24th, then a full 8 hours on the 26th. I’ll be working on the 1st and 2nd as well. Oh well.

Here’s an old joke that sums up my feelings this holiday season:

A long time ago, in a small town, there was a boy who wanted nothing more than to be in show business. He dreamed of touring the country, entertaining millions. All his friends knew about his dreams, and none of them were surprised when he left town the day he turned 18 to become a star. Years passed, and people in the small town began to wonder what ever happened to the young man. About ten years later, the man returned to town and wandered in to the local bar. One of his childhood friends was there, they recognized each other, and began talking and joking, reliving the old days. After a few beers, the friend asked the man what he’d been up to for the past ten years. The man said that he’d joined the circus, and listed off his daily schedule: “I get up a 6am and clean out the elephant cages. The I feed the elephants. Then I wash the elephants. Then I clean the cages again, then I feed them again. After that, it’s usually time for a parade, and I follow the elephants down the street, picking up elephant poo with a shovel. After that, I cage the elephants, clean out the cages, and feed them dinner. Then I wash the elephants again, and go to bed. My whole life is spent cleaning up after elephants. My clothes and hair stink of elephant shit. I’ve lost count of how many times those damn elephants have stepped on my feet. Sometimes I think they see me coming and try to poop all over me. It’s awful.” The man’s friend agreed that it sounded awful, and asked the man why he keep working there. Why not quit?

“What,” the man replied, “and leave show business?”

Well, I lied. They just told me this morining that we are getting the 23rd and the 24th off because the legislature will be out and that is who I work for in a roundabout way. We aren’t getting paid for those days but I have enough vacation hours that it doesn’t really matter. YAY!

For the 1st time in longer than I can remember I get the 24th and the 25th off. I work on a 24x7 helpdesk and finally have enough senority to get the 24th off. I also get the 31st the 1st and the 3rd off as holidays. and I took the next week off for vacation.
