Who has the most cryptic (apparently random, but meainingful) screen name?

It usually means a poster with a long name was last poster for the forum. Then the front page, if you have your screen set to a low resolution, can word-wrap. But the longest name here is C K Dexter Haven, which must be fairly common, so it hardly seems worth the effort.

Some posts from this thread have been removed. Look at the first reply (Ice Wolf’s), completely out of place. Did someone get ba… no wait, we’re not allowed to ask that question.

Not to worry. Most of my posts end up out of place these days.

I think 1010011010 fits the criteria in the OP. It is 666 in binary notation. Uber geeky!

There is more than one screen name on here that I don’t understand… but I figure its just because I don’t understand, understand? (I suppose this would be the place where I’m suppose to mention one, but I hesitate to show that much of my ignorance, yet… )

Nah, nobody will think less of you for it. I’m sure everyone has screen names they don’t understand. I don’t get manhattan.

Thorstein Veblen.

Just a guess.

While I did know the story behind your screen name… I would NOT ever even think about challenging you to a game of Trivial Pursuit. Did you look that up? Or did you just rattle that off the top of your head?

Ok, how about cainxinth? (or is it cain the 10inth?)

Kristen:

That would be C K Dexter Haven. Lordy, what was the name of that movie? The divorcee on the verge of the new marriage to the stuffed shirt, her ex coming around to try to muddle it up, her daughter rooting for him, and the newspaper reporters alternating between being pawns and being instigators themselves…

::quick trip to imdb::

Oh yeah, The Philadelphia Story

Marks 1st wife, I’m a social scientist by education so I ought to recognize TVeblen.

As for cainxinth, all I know is what turns up on good ol’ Google.

But speaking of missing posts, I know I was responding to someone asking about that user name. Now it too is gone. It’s getting spooky in here…

<reemphasize on to do list- #8. Learn (even) more>

Next might be… when I see Mach Tuck I automatically think, Mack Truck. (in which you may go fast, but not close to the speed of sound.) so you can tell that my conversations are aerodynamically challenged.

Where’s the Trilby post to which Ice Wolf was responding?

Same here, though I’ve been suprised how many haven’t recognized it.

Good catch!

Myself, Orbifold, Recursion, and np-complete are all contenders.

Ilsa_Lund anyone?

It took about a week from the time Olive, the Other Reindeer showed up before I finally went “…Ah.”

Yeah, I was wondering where the Trilby post was. Then again, he only had two posts to that name… er, never mind. Won’t discuss it.

Ice Wolf, even though your reply looks out of place now… that was probably what was going on.

I’ve always understood Sue Duhnym’s name, but I only JUST got Satisfying Andy Licious’s name now. :smack: I said it to myself, and thought: “D’oh! That’s what it means!”

Here’s another name in that category: Sofa King. Luckily, I always understood it… say it to yourself five times fast.
As for the Bodoni font, I never thought of it in that light. Not even when scrolling through the list of fonts on my sister’s laptop… no, I don’t use it that often, if at all.

It’s funny. I have a design background, so when I first found the SDMB I saw Lynn Bodoni’s name, my first thought was “How nice. A fan of the font.” I’m just slow enough that it never occurred to me that it might be a real name.

ISTR canthearya causing a lot of confusion for people. Strangely enough, that was one of the names I got right away. (I’ll please the fifth on some of the other names that have shown up here.)

Ilsa Lund!
I’m flattered you thought of me!
