Me. Never smoked a cigarette; not even once. I did smoke a blunt once that had a little American Spirit rolled in it, and I hafta admit it was pretty good stuff. Thing was that for weeks after that, every time I passed my someone smoking, it smelled really really good. I figure I should stay away from tobacco, 'cuz if I start, I don’t think I’d ever stop.
Count me in too. Never smoked, family never smoked, but the smell of my Grandpa’s pipe is one of my strongest and favorite memories of him and will likely stay with me til I die.
I have had my best friend explain the psychological benefits and the infusion of seratonin that happens when you use cigarettes. That sounds really nice in theory and helped me understand better why people stick with it, but still didn’t make me want to use. When I am really into food, it strikes me that smoking might be a good substitute, and appetite suppressant, but I don’t want to start down that road.
My parents always told me that if I really wanted to try smoking, they’d buy my first pack. Clever. I never felt the need to rebel by smoking, and I’ve never touched them.
I’ve never smoked a cigarette or anything else. My parents didn’t smoke, but while growing up I spent a lot of time at my grandparent’s house. My grandfather who was a great man in almost every way smoked, had since he was a teen. All the while I heard my grandmother complain about the smoking and I also went with her each week to the grocery store where she bought his expensive cartons of cigarettes. It just never appealed to me, although I do actually miss the smoky smell a little, I guess it’s sort of nostalgic. A little of that goes a long way though, and I still don’t like being in the room with somebody who smokes.
Have never smoked anything; I’ve always found the entire concept vile.
As alcohol use has also been brought up, will mention I’ve tried various forms from time to time, but have simply never liked the taste. Due to that have pretty much quit trying.
I’m over 60, and I’ve never smoked tobacco ever. I never heard a smoker say they enjoyed it, so I never saw the point of starting. (I did try smoking marijuana once, a long time ago, but it’s pretty rough on the throat, especially if you aren’t used to tobacco, and it didn’t get me high, so I never tried it again).
Honestly, I can’t understand how anyone ever gets started on the habit these days. Never mind the health risks (obviously people will still do dangerous things), second-hand cigarette smoke is not a pleasant thing to smell, so most peoples’ first encounter with cigarettes is most likely a bad experience. Add to that the social stigma that cigarette smoking has become (smoking not allowed in most buildings, on airplanes, etc), and I can’t imagine the appeal to a beginner. Even if the first-hand experience is pleasant, who’s tempted to approach it? Not I, that’s for sure.
Never smoked. Both parents did until I was in college. I don’t even hang around smokers any more. I’m repulsed by it just walking down the sidewalk these days. I LOVE that it’s banned in bars now. I’m so happy to go home and not stink!
