Boxing referee and former TV judge Mills Lane is still alive. He’s ‘only’ 79, but 12 years ago, he suffered a near-fatal stroke. Even though he did not experience a full recovery, he’s still alive and kickin’.
Roger Corman, producer and sometime director of schlocky films, who claimed that none of his pictures ever lost money, is stioll alive and producing. His film Death Race 2050, a sequel to 1975’s Death Race 2000, was released just last month.
He’s 90.
He’s named as producer on 413 films(!) on the imdb. starting with Highway Dragnet and Monster from the Ocean Floor in 1954.
Along the way, he started or fostered the careers of numerous directors, including Francis Ford Coppola and James Cameron.
Angie Dickinson is still alive at 85, and so is her ex-husband Burt Bacharach at 88
Nehemiah Persoff is 96 or 97, depending on which birth date is accurate.
Danielle Darrieux is 99.
Along with the youthful Sandy Koufax, former Brooklyn Dodger pitchers still around include Carl Erskine and Don Newcombe (both 90). Koufax, unlike the other two, does not feature in “Boys of Summer”, as Roger Kahn focused on the two seasons where he was a Dodger beat reporter ('52 and '53, the latter in many minds the best of all the Brooklyn teams).
Leontyne Price is 90. They showed footage from a doc they are making about the new Met Opera, which included an interview with her. She sing a snippet and still sounded wonderful.
June Foray, best known as the voice of Rocky the Flying Squirrel, is 99.
Vera Lynn, the singer called “The Armed Forces Sweetheart” will be 100 in less than a month.
In that same vein, Luis Olmo, is the oldest living former Brooklyn Dodger (he played on the 1949 Pennant winning team) at the age of 97.
Harry Belafonte turns 90 today.
