We need to contact this [del]Emmanuel Goldstein[/del] George Soros guy about funding the Dope. If he can supply the millions Snopes requires to operate then surely he’ll support this hive of libtards!
You have to be really stupid these days to think you can get away with something like this. Fortunately, that fact allowed the authorities to narrow their search down to Republicans.
Well, sure, if it was tall enough.
Here’s my current favorite thing. I don’t know who it was but someone on Anderson Cooper was going on about how this was a sick individual, low IQ, identity problems – of course we can’t blame the president. Then they show a picture of this guy at a MAGA rally and if they didn’t highlight him in the crowd, you would never be able to guess which one they were talking about.
That’s exactly what conservative media and top Republicans have been saying over and over again.
It’s not just the winks and nods of violence; it’s the messaging that says “The democrats are your enemies.” Without any shred of evidence, they suggest that the Democrats are an anti-American, anti-Democratic force that operates illegitimately and might illegitimately take the House.
That’s where we’re at now. If Democrats win, it is very likely that one mainstream theme among conservatives will be to question and challenge the legitimacy of that victory, framing it as a type of “emergency” that needs to be dealt with - somehow.
This is why I’ve been alarmed like hell, and I was not wrong to be. This is real, folks. We’re at a very dangerous period in our history. And it’s even more dangerous because we wouldn’t know it by just taking a walk outside of our homes. Things seem normal. But they’re anything but normal. I can’t remember a time in my lifetime in which one major party questioned the legitimacy of the other. But that’s where we’re at now.
You’re quite right, but the Democrats are saying the same things about the Republicans. Hell, we’ve even had a Doper call for Trump’s assassination. American politics seems to just be that toxic. Hopefully you’re not going down the road of Mexico where 132 politicians (including 48 candidates) were assassinated.
I have. But it was only because I repaired something in his home and sent him an invoice, I’ve gotta say, the dude pays his bills, unlike some people.
One Doper, a year and a half ago, who was admonished by peers and a moderator for her stupid remark, truly exposes the mirrorlike equivalence of political toxicity and undercurrent of violence on both sides.
I didn’t mean to quote you in post 327, Aspenglow, but I missed the edit window. I probably tapped multi-quote under your post by accident. So if anyone was confused about how that post related to my response…it didn’t.
Of course it will be tall enough. Once the wall is raised to stop the ladders it will easily stop the zeppelins. This is why team R is winning - they are playing 4D Gnip Gnop and team D can’t keep up.
The actions of people like Sayoc are the harsh symptom of a Trump presidency, or more specifically of the right wing being in power, and it’s unfortunate that Trumpsters are too blindy in denial to realize that.
The lies they keep telling themselves over and over again, the rhetoric, the propaganda, are all exactly what led to this, and it will continue to happen for as long as the right wing have the power to influence while they can.
Hypothetically if the magabomber was a Democrat /liberal and sent the bombs to republicans, what would they do? Which of our rights would they take away?
His incitement of violence is well-attested.
Pretty much. I mean, you want to see that kind of rhetoric? Check out basically any site where it’s primarily republicans. /r/The_Donald, FreeRepublic, the comments sections on Breitbart of Fox News… This is apparently mainstream republican thought online.
They wouldn’t need to take away any rights. They don’t want to. They, after all enjoy the same ones.
They would however, make enough political hay to feed every cow on earth for the rest of time.
There’s no equivalency. You can always find some individual on any side who’ll say stupid things, but I’m not aware of any prominent Democratic politician advocating violence against Republicans.
Pathetic.
*ONE *post by *ONE *poster on a message board? *That’s *what you got?
Yeah, *TOTALLY *equal to prominent Republicans inciting violence.
That is some holy shit mental gymnastics, right there.
To be fair, I also got modded once for making an oblique reference to Trump being executed by firing squad. And I’m a card carrying Democrat. So, that’s two anonymous members of a tiny message board calling for violence. By my math, that is pretty much equivalent to the President of the United States encouraging his supporters to attack his political opponents. I mean, sure, it was just that one time, and the message board made sure I was aware that speech wasn’t acceptable here. But, pretty much the same thing as the most powerful man in the world calling for violence against reporters.
NO, they aren’t; not by any stretch is the number of people saying things or the distribution of the same through the media at all equivalent. It’s not even close. Nor do the level of influence compare at all. You’re comparing one anonymous internet poster to hundreds or right wing talking heads and elected officials that are on Fox all day every day.
Shove your false equivalences up your ass.
It’s kind of like trying to confront an heroin addicted child only to have him remind you of that one time you had three glasses of wine on New Years Eve.
