Heck. I didn’t realize that I wasn’t the only person with “location, location” as my Location:, so I was all excited that people remembered it despite my measly post count. Now I’ll have to come up with something original…
Quonk, yes! Kentucky it is. Eskippakithiki was a Shawnee town in Clark County, Kentucky, that was abandoned about the time European settlers came into the area in the late 1700s. Disputes between tribes led to the exodus, moreso than the encroaching settlers. It was the relative lack of habitation in the area at this time gave rise to the idea that Kentucky was a “Happy Hunting Ground” that all Indian tribes, by agreement, used only for hunting. Not true. It was inhabited, until the time of the pioneers. Mississippian tribes flourished in the Western part of the state, too, but disease transmitted to Native peoples preceded the invaders themselves and by the time they arrived, these people too had been mostly wiped out.
I’m fond of mine, even if it is a bit simplistic. The N.G.C. stands for “Nonexistant Governmental Conspiracy”, as we all know that Delaware doesn’t exist.
'Course I spend all of my time in NH these days, but one shouldn’t forget the fictional motherland.
Yes, I noticed your location before, and smiled when I got the reference.
Mine is based on the fact that weather forecasters in NYC always give the weather for Central Park and the airports, then give a slightly different one for “north and west of the city,” as in “Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, possibly as much as 6 inches north and west of the city.” It’s always amused me, since they could be referring to Buffalo or even Green Bay, Wisconsin. Hey, it’s north and west of the city!
But Pearl River, where I live, truly is northwest of New York City.
My sister, SparrowHawk, has “Paradise” listed in her location. Heh. Too bad you can’t use the “rolleyes” smiley in the biographical info fields. Don’t worry, sis, I understand the irony of it.
What irony? Anyplace I am located automatically qualifies for the designation.
But yeah, Hawaii’s wonderful, but one can’t really get comfortable when one constantly feels like a visitor; so - not my idea of Paradise. Which is my own problem and no fault of the place.
