Who makes spicy-hot barbeque potato chips?

Growing up in Maine, I got used to Humpty Dumpty’s barbecue chips, which have a fair amount of kick to them. Additionally, the local grocery store, Hannaford, and Cumberland Farms had store brands that would have you looking for a glass of water in short time. I loved the flavors, but many of them have changed their recipes.

Humpty Dumpty will still give your tongue that burning sensation, but it seems that the trend of many companies is to make barbecue chips much more sweet than spicy. I think the word is “mesquite.” The two store brands above have changed their recipes. I don’t like it at all!

It’s like a big void has been created. So does anyone know of a potato chip company that makes a proper barbecue flavor that’ll leave me needing a drink after eating a handful?

While not specifically branded as barbecue, Zapp’s “Hotter 'N Hot Jalapeno” have a decent amount of heat, and flavor that’s also reminiscent of BBQ chips. Good luck finding them in Maine, though.

Zapp’s Cajun Crawtators (or something like that) are also spicy and BBQ.

They’re not really “BBQ” but Lay’s Chile Limon chips have more bite than I expected from a massive national brand.

UTZ Red Hot potato chips are decently hot.

Tim’s Jalapeno chips will kill you.

Only slightly related but I recently tried Trader Joe’s Cheddar 'n Horseradish chips. Interesting & a slight burn.

Yes - not killer but quite zingy. Heavy on the cayenne. One of my persistent vices… but MAN do they hit back about 2 am. I can eat stuff that blisters plates without a problem, but a few too many of these in the evening and I will get a volcanic backwash in the wee hours.

If you’re going for hot ‘n’ tasty I’d go with Blair’s. I haven’t had the Jolokia ones but the Habanero ones are good, and mildly bbq flavoured.

In the midwest, Grippos are the hot BBQ chip to turn to!

They’re not potato chips, of course, but Utz BBQ corn chips are nicely hot.
