Who or what is Coldfire?

Damn it-I thought we had all agreed to never talk about that party again.

Hun, you told me nothing happened at that party!

Ummmm…
Have I mentioned how lovely you look, dear?

OK, this made me laugh.

Maybe I should’ve gone with Lucius Vorenus?

Titus Pullo ftw.

Cold Fire” is a single from the album Counterparts by Canadian rock band Rush, released in 1993.

He’s got a lovely wife, you know.

Link isn’t working for some reason.

I’ve been around a while (though for a while I wasn’t posting or reading as much) and I still don’t know what people mean by that. I vaguely remember Coldfire and I never thought of him as all that much of a jerk. I remember manhattan being uber snarky but nothing about Coldfire.

Oh, um, to fit in with the spirit of the thread, when Coldfire does a push up he pushes the earth down.

**Coldfire **was first here when we advanced to stone tablets and chisels. He brought them down after talking to God and made us destroy all our idols.

Coldfire was the Chief Gunner on the Death Star.
He thought Alderaan was a clay pigeon. Perfectly understandable confusion.

I am Coldfire, and so’s my wife!

Is everyone else getting these Coldfire advertisements…right up there? /\

Wait, no, I mean right down there…/…oops.

The first rule about Coldfire, is you don’t talk about Coldfire.
Am I too late?

I knew Coldfire, and you, sir, are no Coldfire!

Y’all are too kind.

Yes, I am the one known as Coldfire.

But seriously, now. What’s all this veneration? What the hell did I do, except spend way too much time on these boards for many years?

To the OP: yeah, I was a mod once. If I recall correctly, I did it for about 3 years, between 2001 and 2004. Ì joined the SDMB in 1999, a few months after its non-AOL launch. I’ve been a regular poster for almost 11 years, then - though not so regular these last few years. No real reason - busy with life, mostly.

I wasn’t asked to step down or anything - I just had enough of moderating after a few years. It really is quite a thankless job, though a lot of people take the effort to thank you every now and then. Mostly, think of it as spending 2 to 3 hours a day debating various offences with your fellow moderators, per e-mail. As the boards grew, and the rules were tightened, it just wasn’t that much fun anymore. So, I left it in the hand of my capable colleagues, and that was it. Since then, many new mods have sprung up, and they seem to be doing an ace job from what I can see. The rules are much, much stricter now though, so I can only imagine them being even busier with it than I was.

As for me being a jerk, either as a poster or a mod - who’s to say? What is that Hellraiser slogan again: demon to some, angel to others?

If y’all want, and the powers that be permit it, we can do an “Ask the ex-moderator” thread, why not. And thanks to Johnny LA for bringing this thread to my attention, hope you’re doing good mate.

Coldfire visited the Marianas Trench once. In 1960. For 20 minutes.

Dude, exactly the same experience here.

I’m certain I’ve seen that name before!
