But when you buy early, you get a good pre-season price. We’ve got tons of space in the garage (now) and we were able to tell them they could deliver any time before late October. It works out all around.
I forgot to mention that we stopped at the Amish market and got corn, cukes, and peaches. Yum!
I can say two things with certainty ------ one is that you can fire a rubber chicken out of the standard 3 or 4 pound muzzle-loading cannon. The other is that should you do so at night into a dry harvested corn field the darn things are almost impossible to find. Until the dry stalks ignite and you call the local volunteer fire department. And then for several days you field phone calls from other area volunteer fire departments who read the report and suspect the local volunteer fire department is spending too much time at the bar in the basement of the fire-hall. Don’t ask me how I know this ------ but it sounded like a good idea at the time. Even though we were all sober. :smack:
I suppose if there was sufficient moisture in them and they were in fields under the sun, they might burst into flames. But considering we’ve had half a ton sitting in our garage for over a year, since we didn’t burn them all last year, I figure it’s a pretty stable fuel source. In fact, pellets are a popular fuel around here and I’ve never heard of bags of pellets spontaneously combusting.
On vacay this week! Kicked it off last night with a concert. Get The Led Out which was triffic for 2 hours until lightning started. Today was dry provision getting day, then yoga. Tomorrow I get to ride my new horsey…
I should be getting more done than I am.
I may have company Tuesday, and she may spend the night. She keeps her house (and yard) looking ready for a photo shoot for Better Homes and Gardens, so the pressure is on.
I doubt she’ll stop on her way home, but she will be passing within a few miles of my house so I want to be prepared.
She’s never seen my house, so I know she’ll want the tour.
One of the nice things about an old house is the wood trim. One of the bad things about an old house is the wood trim, with all the fancy cuts and grooves that collect a ton of dust.
I’m also helping Sah-son set up his software for his online classes. I don’t know why he wants my help, he does it on his own, but he wants me there in case he messes something up. He wants to skip the orientations on Moonday. I think he should go, even though it’s a pain in the ass that one is from 4-5 and the other is from 6-7, which leaves an hour in between and nothing to do but sit and wait.
You need to get a rubber wolf & leave it at the edge of the field.
Home, I saw the ocean, off in the distance, from the driver’s seat whilst going over the inlet causeway. That doesn’t count.
Well, the weather cleared up and the soccer fields were open. I refereed a U10 boys game at 0830, took extra time to allow them to rest (it was only in the high 70’s at the time, but the sun was fierce) and then went to my game at another field. Only had 8 players show up, but the other team also only had 8 players and they had no coach (previous appointment) and no assistant coach (death in the family). So the head of the U12B division and I ‘refereed’ a scrimmage using 8 v 8 (normally it is 9 v 9) with plenty of breaks for water and rest (by then, about 1130, it was nearing 90F).
And what the heck, we won 5-1, after trailing 0-1 after the first half. My best defender pestered me to let him play offense to start the second half, and he proceeded to score 3 goals in about 10 minutes. Two other guys scored in the last period and my defense, with one slip-up, did an excellent job.
So I am happy, the parents are happy, and the kids are happy (and tired). And now I get to rest for a little bit and then go back out for several hours to help evaluate travel team player selection.
Cooking for tomorrow’s family reunion potluck, so we shall nibble around the edges (quality control) tonight. Roasted pork loin with red potatoes and caramelized onions, cucumber and tomato salad, and pumpernickel rolls. Alas, no nibbling on the lemon blueberry pound cake tonight, but it’s better on day 2 anyway.
The bidding on the Mumper Ruckus property has reached $500. I’m willing to go up to $15/acre, + $200, so we’re still well within the running!
I did a load of laundry, and napped. i’ts bee a lazy day, but the heat index is still 96, even with the tempreture down to 85. I must go to the sto ahead of the oncoming storm.
‘Tis been a mostly lazy day here as well although I did cook dindin. Ok I slow roasted dindin. Still I baked some asparagus and rolls to go along with the brisket, N.O.T., carrots, and onions so that counts as productive. We lounged at the cee-mint pond and et a nice dindin. OYKW is upon the bed watchin’ teevee. All is good.
Slept in, got nails redone, trying to motivate toward any sort of productivity and not succeeding. Bidding on a software package I want on eBay is the big excitement so far.
I made baked fried chicken with paprika roasted potatoes ans green beans sauteed with ham and red pepper flakes. I’m drinking gin&tonics tonight, since it’s so freakin’ hot.
