Who shoulda stood in bed?

Who was famously quoted as saying, “I shoulda stood in bed”? I believe this was after a calamatous baseball loss, but it wasn’t Yogi Berra. Probably in the 30’s or 40’s, possibly 50’s.

I heard a reference to this on my public radio station recently, within the last month. It may be that he was mentioned because he died recently. The same guy was widely known for another quote which I can’t remember, which may have been related to a boxing match. The radio show may possibly have been Garrison Keillor’s Writer’s Almanac but I’m not sure.

A Google search uncovers tons of hits but they are secondary quotes, nobody seems to direct quote the original guy.

It was Joe Jacobs, who said it in the presence of famed baseball writer Shirley Povich (yes, Maury’s father).

Thank you, Exapno Mapcase. I had heard Bugs Bunny say it in the 1950’s, and I suspected he was quoting somebody.
