Who thought it was a good idea to have Gilbert Gottfried do TV ad voiceover?

I’m not talking about Aflac, I’m talking about the “ShoeDini.” A shoehorn on a stick*, and I swear to Og I saw the TWO MINUTE commercial on actual, real TV yesterday with Gilbert Gottfried doing the voiceover.

I couldn’t look away. I even had a few minutes of buffer time on my DVR and I couldn’t fast forward. I kept waiting for it to be revealed as a joke. But no, somebody actually paid for it to be on TV.
I actually like Gottfried, but anyone who thought his relaxing and dulcet voice would sell anything must be laughing his ass off after taking his golden parachute to a Caribbean island.

The product itself doesn’t seem so useless, but the ad is ridiculous. Here’s a version with a normal-sounding woman speaking, it’s still over-the-top.

*:warning: YouTube video, Gilbert Gottfried-based audio starts automatically, may not be safe for anyone.

That’s funny as all get out but on a weird level, I think it works.

I thought he was genius in the Beggin’ Strips spot.

Then I learned it wasn’t him.

I’ve seen those in catalogs intended for the disabled and infirm.

I’m sold. Gimme three.

as a movement impaired gimp, i think it is a great idea. Especially the little clip so it can be used to pick up the shoe or take it off.

Obviously you are more mobile than many of us =)

Shoedini:D

Never heard of it or him before , but as someone says, it kinda works…

He really gets your attention.

Shoehorns on a stick have actually been around for a long time, but the telescoping and the clip are new to me.

I imagine Lewis Black voicing this commercial and laugh even harder.

But it’s not just a shoehorn, it’s a shoehorn on a stick!

Or Jeff Dunham.

Or Stephen Hawking.

AFLAk. AFLAK.
Is it really a big problem?

I resisted mentioning him in my OP.

[Gilbert Gottfried]
i find your lack of faith disturbing.

Say hello to my li’l friend.

You had me at hello.

There’s the answer to your question.

Well, last night, as I was laying in bed, I was composing this huge post, replete with links to youtube videos, comparing Gottfried’s voice to cranky Walter (of Dunham fame).

Thanks for saving me the effort…
