Who Wants to be a Superhero 8/3

Copyright isn’t the issue. Trademark is. I’m not aware of a Marvel character called Major Victory but there have been at least three Majors Victory at DC. Lemuria isn’t a character at Marvel. It’s the name of a couple of its many sunken islands with lost civilizations on it. Presumably Marvel already holds the trademark on “Lemuria” so they can license Dark Horse to do a Lemuria comic. Not sure what they’d have to do about “Major Victory,” though.

And now I discover that the full second episode is available online at scifi.com. It’s in some sort of Java player, so I don’t think a direct link is possible, but there’s a link on the videos page.

Not necessarily: They could have just done those makeovers after the eliminations, so the promo pictures wouldn’t give anything away.

And I only just now noticed that one of Tyveculus’ purported powers is that he can always detect lies, since he only hears the truth. Ironic, considering why he got called on the carpet for the costume challenge.

It’s clear that the show isn’t primarily about the contests themselves, but rather the LARPing. Out of four eliminations 2 were straight LARP eliminations (ROTIART and costume), 1 was a LARP disguised as a physical challenge (crying girl), only the attack dog was a physical challenge, and even then LARPing was a key…there’s no way they’d eliminate Monkey Woman even if she never made it to the door. CFG wasn’t eliminated because she didn’t reach the door, she was eliminated because she broke character and wimped out. (“What if the world was in danger and you had a headache?”)

But I’m sure Iron Enforcer knew he’d get some screen time as a returning villain after his elimination even if no one told him that explicitly. He’s probably read a few comic books and watched a few of these shows in the past, after all.

<golf claps>

Ah, yes. Proper grammar. The mark of a true superhero.

The acronyms are leaving me whooshed :frowning:

LARP = Live Action Role Play

ROTIART spelled backwards is TRAITOR (from the first episode)

Here’s some links I dug up for some of the contestants. None of them have nudity on the front pages, although you might find some art photos if you go digging through the galleries, and almost all have sound…turn off your speakers if you’re at work!

Ah … I only saw the second half of the first episode. I’ll assume that’s when Levity got eliminated, because I only see him during the show’s intro.

In what body of knowledge is the acronym “LARP” a common term? Are some of you theater majors, perchance?

You want the truth? You want the truth? You can’t HANDLE the truth!

OK, it’s the role playing game subculture. Y’know like regular tabletop D&D, but played freeform and in costumes, and more usually with Vampires rather than D&D. OK, I’m a geek. Are you happy now? Are you happy now?

Actually, it’s a subculture of the role playing game (RPG) subculture.

Older site for Major Victory. And if you google image his name you get an interesting first result.

Thanks for the info, Lemur866 … I’m one factoid smarter today

I see that Creature (Tonya Kay) was part of a dance troupe that was on America’s Got Talent last week. Wonder if the shows will help her break out in some way.

Vance Astro from Guardians of the Galaxy was Major Victory for awhile and wasn’t Lemuria the name of that fish woman who showed up in Alpha Flight years ago?

Lemuria is the Pacific Ocean version of Atlantis.
Marrina is fish-lady from Alpha Flight

Somehow, when you mentioned I might find nudity if I went through the galleries, I immediatlye went to Creature and immediatly found her naked.

And she looks a LOT more attractive on her photo gallery than on the show.

Lemuria is one of those public-domain mythic “lost continents.” I don’t think Marvel can claim trademark, unless you have its sunken ruins inhabited by green-skinned water-breathing humans, & even then, they might not bother.
