Inspired by the current thread about your sterotypical outfit I noticed that plenty of people listed that their usual outfit includes a pair of Chucks. While I have other shoes I mostly wear a pair of black and white Chucks almost every day. They seem to work with a wide array of styles, from shirt and tie to Megadeth t-shirt.
I used to wear them a lot when I was a teen. Actually a pretty crappy athletic shoe with no arch support or ankle support of any kind.
Fashionable yes. Functional no.
I do nearly every day. I’m pretty close to my goal of collecting them in every color. I wear black ones or red ones mostly, but I also have blue, orange, turquoise, and yellow for days I want something special. I like the low tops, but have a couple pairs of high tops that I wear with pants (high tops with shorts make my calves look fat).
ETA: Though I agree that they make shitty athletic shoes, I think they’re pretty comfortable. About as close to barefoot as you can get in shoes (flipflops excluded), and a hell of a lot better than the heels I see women wearing for their everyday shoes.
I wear black high-top Chucks every day, though unlike the OP I’d be uncomfortable wearing them in anything beyond casual situations. Chucks tend to stand out (at least to people who look at shoes). And, kinda like the “Jeep wave,” other Chuck wearers tend to comment on my shoes.
I always have a pair of black hi-top Chucks that I wear until they’re too damaged to really resemble a shoe anymore. Then I start over with a new pair.
I don’t really care for the various colors, though. Black or white is good for me.
I have a bunch of pairs, and I wear them quite a bit. Not to work, but pretty much the rest of my running-around time. I’m not really picky about the color…I tend to pick up a new pair here & there if I see a new color I like. I mentioned in the other thread that my latest pair is camo…technically they are One-Stars, not the classic All-Stars, and I got them at Target, which is carrying a line of them now. Right now I’m looking for matching girly pairs for me and my preschool-age daughter, maybe pink ones, just for fun!
I wear Chucks all the time, and I usually own at least two pair at any gien moment. One pair is always low top and black, and the other pair varies. I have a love/hate relationship with my Chucks. Basically, I wear them as a concession to style over function, as they are miserably made shoes. It’s hard to imagine that people once actually played basketball in these shoes. Hello, arch support, anyone?
I humbly invite any MySpacers in the thread to visit the “Chuck Taylor Ruined My Shins” MySpace group, founded by a couple of my friends and me.
The superhero is wearing black hightop chucks with his prince Charlie and kilt for the wedding, because he has always felt that anything you can’t do in chucks isn’t worth doing.
He wears them all the time, though he has a shiny new pair he’s been saving for the wedding.
