I have two pair: One pair Navy blue and the other black. And some Skid Grips. And some cool skelly Vans.
I’ve been wearing Chucks since high school and I love them. I only have one pair at the moment, black low tops that I’m wearing at this moment. Several of my students have asked me about them - apparently All Stars are not normal apparel for teachers in BG.
I have flat, very narrow feet, and Chucks are great for them. They’re the only lace up shoes I’ve ever had that I actually have to lace up every time. (With other sneakers, I can just slip my foot in and out.)
Update: I wore my chucks tonight to the Riv to see the Pogues and then to Quenchers to see the Mudflapps, two concerts, maybe 4-5 hours on my feet and I’m hurting. Like others have said, I love them for the look but there’s a reason I own one pair of Chucks and 7 pairs of Eccos.
Has anyone tried putting those insertable arch supports in a pair of Converse?
…and I think that just asking this question makes me officially OLD!!!
(**MikeG **- I was at the Pogues show last night, too! As Shane so brilliantly put it, “Mrrfffffiing fapppfeeffyrrr mrrrrrdumph!”)
My 10-year-old son has them – a pair of black high tops with double laces. I was appalled at how much they cost because I was inititally thrilled he wanted cheap canvas gym shoes instead of expensive leather Nikes or whatever. Ha. They’re popular now, so what I thought was going to be a $15 expenditure turned out to be $40.
I did get $5 off at Shoe Carnival, however, because I sang the SpongeBob Squarepants theme song over the microphone. My 13-year-old daughter is extremely grateful she wasn’t along on this trip.
Psst! See post #53. And don’t feel old - I’ve been putting the arch supports in my Chucks since about the second day after I bought my first pair (17? 18? who knows). I have absolutely flat feet, so I have to have some good arch support in my shoes.
ETA: Ellen Cherry, next time he wants a pair check out Ross or TJ Maxx first - they almost always have Chucks for $15 - $20 a pair. Not a great selection, but I check out their shoe sections every time I’m there, just in case.
I have a pair of low top green and I am looking to get a pair of low top baby blue since the green ones are pretty disgusting after walking around in Vegas for three days (even after the wash). I love the chucks and find them to be very comfortable since I have very low arches.
Oh, hey! Lookee there - there’s a post between #52 and #54! How ingenious!
:smack: (Sorry, pprgrl. You’re not on my ignore list, I promise!)
I’ve been listening to Shane for 25 years and even I had a hard time with his slurring last night. He’s a poster child for why you should wear dentures if you knock out all your teeth.
…and not to drink a bottle of whiskey a day for 20 years.
Back to the shoes; i bought some 3/4 inserts for my Chucks but they were really uncomfortable. Haven’t cared enough to look for a better pair but probeably will try a new set (may the Dr Scholls Gells) in the spring when I wear them more often.
I had a pair of low tops that I wore all the time until they temporarilly messed up my arches.
I’d still buy more though if I could find the same style (canvas all stars, without the toe caps).
I saw an awesome pair of hemp Chucks once- should have bought them.
I have a pair of hemp Adidas shell toes, but everyone thinks that they’re just dirty white shell toes. They’re pretty cool though.
Chuck all blacks (where the rubber is black along with the canvas) - check. Very rock n’ roll!
Vans checkerboard slip-on’s - check
Puma Clydes - black leather with a white stripe - check.
I love my shoes.
