I’ve got kelly green high tops that I bust out for the occasional St. Patrick’s day or Christmas party. And some purple high tops that I used to wear a lot more when I was younger. They’re uncomfortable like my Van’s checkerboard slip-ons. I only wear them occasionally when I don’t have to do walk very far. I recently saw some Laker Purple and Gold ones online, but I neglected to buy them in a timely fashion and my window of opportunity has disappeared.
I have a pair of black ones that belonged to my youngest son a couple of years ago. At the time we were the same shoe size, so once he outgrew them, I decided to keep them for myself, since it’d been at least 5 or 6 years since I had my own pair. My husband has a pair and wears them pretty frequently when we go out to the bar or whatever.
When my husband and I got married in Vegas a few years ago, I forgot to pack my youngest son’s dress shoes. It was the only thing we forgot amazingly, and not a big deal at all. He ended up wearing a pair of Converse with his tuxedo (you can just barely see them in this pic) which everyone thought looked cute, and much more his style anyway.
It ended up being repeated (this time on purpose) at my sister’s wedding in 2005. Both my youngest son and my nephew wore a pair with their tuxes that day (another pic where you can just make that out) and looked adorable.
I wear them every now and then, but I usually end up wearing a pair of plain black slip on Vans more often, since they are just easier to put on and take off.
I know the Ramones have been marketed to death, but I really don’t care. Since I am a die hard old school fan, I am going to eventually buy myself a pair of these.
I have a pair of red ones I love but I can no longer wear them. My legs and knees kill after stomping around in them for an afternoon. I’ve changed over to a pair of funky Clarks mary janes as my slumming shoes.
I very much disagree with this statement. I have a couple of 3 inch heels that I can walk around in very comfortably and none of them will leave my shins aching the way walking around in Converse will. Companies like Clarks, Dansko & Beautifeel make beautiful high heeled shoes that leave you feeling like you’re walking on air.
I like them, I think I wore some as a kid. I’m too lazy to tie shoes though, I usually just slip my everyday shoes on.
I was wondering, do the Chucks make your feet hot?
I totaly do not remember that fad. Vaguely with the friendship pins, but not the swapping so much. I think I’m a bit too old for it…my sister is about your age, and I kind of remember her sneakers having the pins on them…little safety pins with different color beads strung on them. Not to mention those crazy barrettes you would weave ribbons into, but that’s another story.
Oh, I have that pair too! Looks very nice with my cherry bandana.
Cite?
Not the canvas ones. Also, Converse makes laceless (they have elastic hidden inside) low-top Chucks. Go buy some!
Um, we just swapped the pins. Much easier and less stinky
.
I wear low-top gray ones.
And I wear them sans-socks unless it is raining or there is a significant amount of snow on the ground. Mmmm, smelly feet.
I had a couple pairs when I was a teenager, but that was a long time ago. We used to wrap them in duct tape when they wore out, and keep wearing them. I’m watching for a good deal to buy my daughters their first pairs.
Me! Black hi-tops for everyday.
Had a pair when I was 13 or so, glad to see them in style again.
As I stated in the other thread, I’m half Chuck and half Check - black suede high top Chucks or black and white Vans checkerboard slip-ons. I’ve been wearing my Chucks a little more often lately simply because my Vans are about to fall apart - more sock than checker shows when I wear them.
I agree with the other posters who’ve said that they’re ridiculously uncomfortable. I rip out the inside lining on the bottom of the shoe and replace it with Dr. Scholl’s inserts, the ones with extra arch support.
My 13 year old has two pairs- one he made custom on their website with his name embroidered on the back.
He is a very happy boy!
I used to have a bunch of high-top All Stars- white, hot pink, dark green, stars & stripes, Christmas with the wreath around the ankle logo and a bell… Loved my Chucks, but passed them on to the next generation a while back.
Love me my new low-tops though- they are plaid!

I think I had a pair when I was a kid. I hated them. Still do as a matter of fact. My wife on the other hand loves them and owns a couple of pairs.
Personally, I prefer Converse Chuck Norris sneakers. They kick ass.

I’ve consistently had at least one pair of low-top Chucks since high school. I usually alternate between blue and black, but my current pair is a sort of khaki color. It has two tongues, so you can fold the top one down and you get a contrasting green color. I hardly ever fold it down, though - too much trouble and I like them better without it. This pair is my default work shoe - I work at a coffee shop and am constantly standing or moving around. Unlike other posters, I actually find my Chucks very comfortable, although they wouldn’t be my first choice in running a marathon or anything. This is coming from a person who has high arches, though, so maybe I just don’t notice lack of arch support anymore.
When I was in highschool, where just about everyone was wearing Chuck Taylors, I tried on a few pairs. I’ve got fairly big feet for a girl, and they’re wide. Too wide for any pair of Chucks I’ve met. It might just be me, and my freakishly wide feet, but I find the shoes to be a pretty narrow cut.
I love Vans though, or I did. Now I just stick to thongs (sorry, flip flops) and ballet flats.
I used to wear them regularly but about the time I hit 40, they made my feet hurt. So now I only wear them when I won’t be standing or walking much. But I get some for my 10-year-old nephew (he calls them “cool dude shoes”) almost every year, starting when he was 3.
