TRUMPBURGUM. It’s so melodic.
Dougburder ?
Sounds like something you rub a medicated ointment on.
Someone, somewhere has been smoking some really lousy devil’s lettuce.
Burgum is so far removed from the veep DJT would want. Stefanik or Scott. Those about the only names I expect are on the list at the moment.
I have no commentary on Doug Burgum, mostly because who the fuck is Doug Burgum?
Governor of North Dakota. And rich. Very rich.
It’s an old-timey prospector swear.
“They stole my mule, Doug burgem!
He’s a guy with a stupider looking face, but better hair, that Donald Trump, so it will have to come down to the swimsuit competition.
“Doug Burgum” sounds what they have the extras say in courtroom scenes to make it seem like people are muttering.
This is probably the most appealing thing about him as a vice-presidential candidate. If he’s on the ticket, he can spend as much of his wealth as he wants to directly on the campaign. Trump is significantly behind Biden in campaign cash, and with so much of what’s raised going to support his various defense teams, it sure would be helpful if he had another rich sucker – I mean patriotic American – he could tap into to cover expenses.
So the front-runner is another bland white guy from a predominantly white red state? Trump really does have a type.
Exactly. Which is why I said this when I first posited Doug Burgum would be the choice:
I don’t know. Based on his history, Bugrum seems like a decent businessman - certainly a better businessman than Trump. I don’t see him spending his own money.
Yeah, I can see him supporting Trump because he wants the business-friendly and anti-employee policies that Trump will enact, but providing an open-ended funding commitment? Not likely.
During the primaries he offered to send everyone who donated at least a dollar to him a $20 gift card (he needed a certain number of donors to make the debates). He’s not averse to be profligate with his own money. Trump is all but certain to require a financial commitment before he puts Burgum on the ticket. And he wouldn’t just be spending it to get Trump elected – getting elected VP puts him in an excellent position to become President himself just due to actuarial tables.
No?
From the article:
Looking to make a splash in the crowded pool of Republican presidential contenders, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum is offering an unusual deal to donors: Anyone who sends a donation of at least $1 will get a $20 gift card in return.
I’ll agree that Burgum’s support is unlikely open ended, but he doesn’t seem entirely adverse to spending his own money to be a player.
ETA: Well ninja’d by @flurb.
See, that’s just straight-up gaming the system. And it was entirely for his own benefit. That makes sense.
But he knows a significant portion of any money he give to Trump will go to Trump’s legal fees, and at least some into Trump’s pockets. Only a fraction would actually help get him elected as VP, and even that is highly speculative at this point.
Really, it all comes down to the final competition for the prospective VP’s:
Gazing At Trump Adoringly.
This is going to be a tough one for many of them to pull off. Have any candidates lost their sense of smell?
Nah, if Burgum uses his wealth to fund the campaign it’ll be through donations to the official Trump/Burgum Presidential Campaign Committee. Campaign committees can only expend their funds on activities that directly benefit the campaign. For this reason, Trump has been using various PACs and the RNC to fund his legal bills because those entities are not subject to the same restrictions.
Now who can argue with that? I think we’re all indebted to Gabby Johnson for clearly stating what needed to be said. I’m particulary glad that these lovely children were here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age.
