Who will be Trump's running mate? (J. D. Vance Has Been Chosen)

I don’t think women are going to like being forced to stay married to a violent man.

That’s not staying together for the sake of the children.

I don’t know what flurb meant, but I was specifically referring to the idea that Vance would be the union-friendly candidate. And it is laughable that any Republican could be considered union-friendly. Still, here we are, with the Teamsters head speaking at the RNC and complimenting Vance. Vance has made a few small pro-labor moves, and Ohio is a Rust Belt state. So I think among all the options, he is probably the least-worst with respect to labor relations. Whether that counteracts the (hypothetical) lost woman vote I couldn’t say.

No, but women who were going to stay married anyway are going to like being told that they’re making a noble sacrifice. People are weird that way.

Remember, the whole “family values” movement, with all of its hypocrisy and toxicity, is propped up by conservative women at least as much as it’s supported by conservative men.

I assume that JD was the stipulation for Musk to agree to donate $45 million a month to the Trump campaign. Thiel, Musk, and the other anti-lib technocrats are all in on Trump.

There’s one scenario in which Vance doesn’t help Trump, and that’s a repeat of 1/6. Trump was hoping Pence would make him president again (which Pence couldn’t do, but that’s beside the point.) But there is no scenario in which an incumbent president Trump is defeated by a Democrat in 2028 and now needs vice president Vance to save the day. By January 2029, Trump would have been at the end of his second term.

Based on spending, it looks like this may have been a signal that Trump is open for business, if any of the wealthiest tech CEOs want to buy some policy in the coming administration.

Seeing as we all live in the world that has had the swamp drained, during the 2017-2021 time period, I have to say that I’m not feeling like President Trump really got that thing cleared out. It even - yes, shocking, shocking I have to tell you - might have gotten far murkier and even easier to discern.

Whoops! Dailykos on the white supremacists who don’t like that ol’ JD’s got some brown in da hizzy:

I will say, his wife looks cute, intelligent, and nice–maybe discourage this asshole from doing what he’s doing? Just sayin’.

Vance wants to devalue the dollar.

Good for exports and tourism. Bad for imports and people traveling abroad. Roughly speaking: support blue-collar workers vs. coastal elites visiting Europe. The signalling seems pretty obvious to me (even if the reality of dollar valuation is more complicated than that).

FWIW…Vance choice for Chief of Staff is a former resident of neighboring township Linwood.
Jacob Reses.
Linwood, NJ Graduate Will Be Chief of Staff For Senator JD Vance (wpgtalkradio.com)

That’s his Chief of Staff for his Senate staff; that article is from November of 2022.

I heard it reported on the news this afternoon.

Can somebody independently confirm?

I googled Jacob Reses, and looked on the “news” tab; there are only two articles on him from the past day. One is behind a paywall, and the other simply mentions that he (as Vance’s senatorial chief of staff) is from New Jersey.

Barring anyone else finding a current news article about Vance naming Reses to a new post, I suspect someone in the journalism world misunderstood an older article.

Just saying that in a Night of the Long Knives situation, the first long knife may be targeted at Trump.

Vance was one of only 8 Senators to sign a statement against privacy rules for women’s medical records:

He thinks the government and law enforcement should have access to women’s medical records without their permission.

(bolding mine)

… he won the elections with him?

I’m of the opinion that J. D. Vance is more baggage than help to the campaign. The announcement was lost in the shooting clutter and made zero impression that I could see. Probably the way Don the Con wants it.

Vance wants law enforcement to have access to women’s medical records without their consent:

That is a frightening concept.
