Who will be Trump's running mate? (J. D. Vance Has Been Chosen)

A number of articles have said Vance will not win Trump more votes and other choices were better.

From a political view, Vance seems to me a reasonable choice:

  • popular with base
  • young, to contrast with both old candidates
  • likely to win midwestern votes, and Ohio
  • too inexperienced to overshadow Trump, who nominated him by text
  • popular with Silicon Valley, VCs, Thiel crowd
  • rags to riches, perceived smart and erudite
  • “able to change his mind”, flexible, spineless
  • telegenic, former marine, Yalie
  • won’t be hard to find other senate lickspittle

I like Haley more. But she wouldn’t win women voters who dislike Project 2025 or abortion views, would alienate misogynists and would not appeal to Trump. Haley has asked her supporters to vote Trump anyway FWIW.

Haley doesn’t help Trump regionally, the way Vance does.

The VP pick doesn’t have much positive impact anyway, but Vance maybe has a tiny bit more.

This is one of the reasons Trump didn’t pick Ramaswamy. Ramaswamy has has his lips around Trump’s wang just as much… but he always did. He was never a critic. There’s no humiliation in it for Trump to revel in.

With Biden now out of the race, Trump is the oldest presidential nominee in American history.

And Vance only has 2 years experience with elected office. He’s also less than 40 years old.

I wonder if his inexperience now becomes a campaign issue.

You know that song, “Baby Shark?”

I think, regarding Vance, the Dems need to make a parody version about Vance, “Baby Trump”

That’s what I think is the real danger to the GOP ticket. They could lose both the “he’s too old” and the “he’s too young” voters.

Apparently Vance is disappointed he won’t get to debate Kelly. Poor fellow!

Oh dear, that Mountain Dew thing was so very awkward.

Things which make you go

So… will Trump dump the chump? (Public poll)

  • Yes
  • No

Vance has already been nominated, which makes him the one thing Trump despises the most - an employee that he cannot fire no matter how much he wants to.

The next four months are gonna be a long 20 years.

Vance Palin, my new favorite band.

That’s a fascinating article he wrote (linked in the tweet), and he was on the Rachel Maddow Show tonight.

In his interview he made the point that TFG originally planned to go with someone more “Pence-y boring” like Burghum as his VP.

But as he started “believing his own press” in recent weeks, he decided that he had the election in the bag, and the only question was how high his winning margin was gonna be, so he felt safe choosing Vance as his “mini-me scumbag type”.

His intellectual and rhetorical muscle, if you will, to use those words loosely.

why is she insane? Because you say so?
lol

I think that’s exactly what happened. Trump would have held his nose and run with Haley if it was politically expedient (and then locked her away in the Naval Observatory for four years.) The Vance choice was yet another act of Trump vanity, made solely as a ‘fuck you’ to the sane half of America because the election was already in the bag.

For me it’s her ongoing refusal to accept basic reality and frequent erratic behavior.

That said, you may have noticed that the campaign has moved on a little in the six months since the post you responded to, and that Lake is not Trump’s actual choice.

that would describe trump…

vance did not “knock it out of the park” yesterday with his first event.

Vance is a fucking weirdo. This will be more and more clear when he has to speak unscripted on TV. He’s an intelligent guy in at least some ways, but on TV he’s a fucking weirdo.

Somebody has posted a picture of Vance next to a lettuce with the note, “start the clock.”
