Who will be Trump's running mate? (J. D. Vance Has Been Chosen)

Politically, I think he is.

If he were to be replaced now, it would be a show of weakness by Trump; he made a mistake.

Barring some unknown scandal (and we know how high the bar for a shocking Republican scandal has been raised), I just don’t see Trump replacing Vance. That would be admitting to a flaw in his thinking.

Maybe Vance apologizes and then announces he’s checking himself into rehab.

But first, he needs to sing the national anthem.

That’s the go to move for Republicans who get shot in the face by the boss.

Or someone finds his laptop.

So even if he did want to, could he actually fire him? I mean he was appointed by the GOP committee not by Trump? Can he be fired?

In practice he can be asked to quit of course. But these are some selfish narcissists we are talking about here, every last one of them. There’s no guarantee Vance would actually quit if it wasn’t in his best interests.

It’s pretty clear by now that the RNC will under no circumstances deny Trump’s will.

Totally, but can they fire him either? Is there a mechanism to unappoint a POTUS or VP candidate after the convention?

As noted earlier today, they already have a mechanism for filling a vacancy. The question is whether (a) they would be able to create a new rule to force out a VP nominee (anything is possible), and/or whether Vance would step aside if asked to (or if pressured to).

FWIW the couch thing is false. Happy to let him deny it though!

In my opinion, there needs to be a non-political reason for a national candidate to drop out. I realize that political people look at polls, but I think it looks bad for that to be the official reason.

Biden dropped out for a heath issue. For that matter, so did Eagleton. Vance does not have a health issue. There is no reason for him to drop out except for a fear that swing voters will turn on him in the future. There’s no solid evidence that will happen. But even if it does, that would not be a politically acceptable reason to switch horses.

Here come the racists.

We can hope. I can’t see it happening in practice tbh. But would be lovely end to the week

Vance? Don’t know who that is. I think he might have brought me coffee before.

Trump has, many times, demonstrated a willingness and ability to throw the people he’s chosen under the bus. He doesn’t admit he made a mistake when he does it; he just claims (and his base believes) that he never chose them at all.

Paint it.

One hamberder encrusted, exercise deprived, obese body living, 78 year old Heart away to be clear. It’s not a sure thing, but if I were Vance, I’d like them odds.

I believe this is where we mention leopards and faces?

Nick Fuentes, the well-known white supremacist and Trump supporter, and weirdly chummy with Kanye West, is quoted in the article.

This guy has a non-white wife and a kid named Vivek. This guy is going to be a defender of white identity? I don’t think so. This guy is going to defend ‘American identity?’

If there’s any justice in the world this will turn into a groundswell of controversy on the right claiming that Vance is not a true ‘MAGA’. Come on Republicans, kick him out of the tent you know you want to.

Did I miss the “TFG should be required to carry Vance to full term with no exceptions” joke somewhere upthread?

I’ve seen it around already.

I’m glad to see that the ‘American Identity’ has now expanded enough to be defended by a guy named “Fuentes”…
