I don’t think it’s ONLY wishful thinking, or an absolute non-zero chance that he’ll pick Jr, but I still think it less likely than the other options. I think he likes playing the spawn off against each other, and by picking one to be VP, he’d lose that selfish little joy. Second, while I agree with your evaluation of his base, with the court cases he’s dealing with, he has to grudgingly acknowledge that the swing voters in swing states ARE important. They shouldn’t be (in his world), but they are. And those are going to be among the ones that, as you correctly pointed out, are going to go “Ugh” if he picks a family member.
Sure, he might still talk himself into it, but at least some of the people he listens too (and Fox News, et al) will point out that weakness (if in the most flattering terms possible).
A last point on the spawn though - most of them ALSO should avoid any more microscopes on them, and their hold on the Republican eye is only as a reflection of Trump. The scandals and improprieties they are currently and historically involved in would NOT look good in the general election, and I doubt they’re as Teflon as Don.
I think Kari is too charismatic for his tastes (she was a newscaster after all, a pretty successful one before she went all MAGA) and will steal his spotlight.
But I can easily see her on his cabinet if (shudder) he got reelected.
Could be, but for a guy who cares about his image above almost all else, I don’t think having a name that sounds like “gnome” tied to the Trump brand would be acceptable.

No, he’s more likely to pick her for Attorney-General or the next SCOTUS vacancy. Unlike of course he uses her as a scape goat for losing his court cases.
Regardless of who Trump ultimately chooses, the one thing we can all look forward to is the vicious public backbiting as the candidates try to impress Trump by mercilessly shiving each other on Fox and Friends.
Yes, that’s what Trump lives for - he’ll just sit back with an O-face while they try to out-crazy and out-sycophant one another. He’s gonna love that - which is why he hasn’t said who he will pick, because just teasing it out there will get them all in order to start the butt-snorkeling.

Fun Fact - In order to find that link, I had to not only google “Corey Lewandowski sexual assault” but I had to include the victim’s name. Otherwise, I just got stories about all the other sexual assaults he committed.

Not even Trump would do that. You might not like his choices for SCOTUS but they came from the usual places. Habba would probably get a resume padding job in the DOJ but not at the top.
Trump’s a showman. I expect him to choose his VP by shouting “(Whoever!) You’re hired!” His circus will keep rolling, and the poor animals will suffer.
