Who will be Trump's running mate? (J. D. Vance Has Been Chosen)

Yeah, I noticed that. I wonder if Donald picked up on it.

Poor J.D. No matter how hard he tries, sometimes the truth leaks out of him.
.
.

And the clip Vance cites as “proving” that Walz is weird, shows nothing of the kind. Vance claimed:

But if you look at the actual video, it doesn’t look anything like that. Four people came together: Harris, Walz, and their spouses. The handshakes-and-then-hugs happened between the non-married people. Then Walz reached across the others to his wife and pulled her over to him for a hug. There was no “Midwestern handshake.”

Vance sees things weirdly.

(Only source I could find that shows the greeting was the Daily Mail–sorry about that: )

Do you guys get the impression that there is any meaningful coordination betw Chump and Vance (or their staffs)?

It’s okay. There’s a glove between the cushions.

Vance Failin.
You’re welcome.

What’s a “Midwestern handshake.” Is that a secret, like with the Masons?

I don’t know, but it’s sounds like he meant it as an insult. Probably not a good thing when you’re trying to win over some of those Midwestern votes.

Par for the course for the weirdo.

I believe it may be a “bro hug”, a handshake that goes to a shoulder bump.

Vance is definitely going to go down in history on the short list of “worst VP picks ever”. I think he’s easily beating out Palin and Quayle at this point.

Very good question. I have wondered this myself.

I don’t even think that Quayle was “bad” per se, and he won with Bush Sr. in 1988. I think his legacy as “bad” is mostly defined by “potatoe” and getting owned by Lloyd Benson in the 1992 VP debate (“You’re no John F. Kennedy”).

Palin was bad. But she was funny-bad and entertaining-bad. McCain was himself a very lame and boring candidate, so I wonder how much she actually hurt him. But yes, bad and a missed opportunity to complement McCain with… something.

Vance is almost-making-me-violate-the-terms-of-service-of-this-website bad. I just want to scream when I see him or hear him. I hate him more than I hate Trump, tbh, as Trump is an evil, despicable person but actually a fairly effective performance artist a lot of the time.

Is Dumb & Dumber going to help?

Since you weren’t going to vote for Trump anyway, this of course is no reason for Trump to dump Vance. But looking at some polls, it does look like Vance harms his ticket.

The Democrats changing their standard bearer gives the Republicans cover if they change VP candidates. Plus Trump needs to change the narrative.

I feel a little foolish renewing my prediction of Stefanik as the final GOP veep pick. I’m seeing no leaks or hints from Trumpworld in this direction. But it makes so much sense that I almost expect it.

The first sentence answers the second.

While that certainly would change the narrative I doubt it would be in the way DJT intends. It would be too much like admitting he is a loser who made a bad decision.

Of course the T campaign could frame it as Vance’s family feels attacked and want to withdraw or something like that. But I think most of the attacks on his family have come from racist MAGATs.

Plus, aren’t we past the date when changes can easily be made to the tickets? I thought it was 8/7 for both of them, but I could have misunderstood.

That was the Ohio deadline, specifically. Each state has its own timetables for the ballots.

So DJT can’t change his running mate because of the deadline in Ohio. Correct?

Aug 7 was the effective deadline for Democrats. Ohio changed its deadline to Sept 1, but that law goes into effect Sept 1 and there was some concern that the Republican-controlled legislature would throw a wrench in the works if the Democrats didn’t finalize the ticket before Aug 7.

Presumably Sept 1 is the deadline for Republicans.

I forgot about that little trick. So it could still happen.

I’d been thinking trump would dump JD, but now I’m thinking it would be too much for his ego to admit he needed the help of a more popular VP to boost his popularity. The shame!

Eh, could still happen, I guess. He’d find someone to blame.

Does Trump need to blame anyone — or admit anything — if Vance steps down on his own initiative? Or if Vance, y’know, says that he’s stepping down on his own initiative?

I think I saw that idea discussed in one of these interconnected threads. Would you “step down” and end your political career with this iteration of the Republican party, if you had a 45% chance of being one more KFC bucket away from the presidency?
