Maybe Donald’s naming these people so he can put them down a peg by choosing someone else. It’s hard to see what he would have against Noem, other than maybe:

Someone spineless, loyal, and that he has enough dirt on to guarantee the VP will pardon him if Trump resigns.
So everyone mentioned except Haley would likely fit that bill.
I surprised Linsey Graham has not been mentioned. He is the king of boot lickers. But perhaps he is too comfortable with his senate seat.
Lindsey disqualified himself when he had a fleeting moment of moral clarity on January 6. After the insurrectionists had been removed from the Capitol, he gave a speech saying to “count me out” and blasting any further effort to delay the electoral count. Sure, within a month he was right back to kissing Trump’s ass but he showed what’ll happen when the shit hits the fan the next time Trump tries to undo democracy.
Graham’s been a Senator for twenty years and is a loyal Republican. So he has a power base that exists outside Trump’s orbit.
Trump wants a VP who is totally dependent on Trump’s favor. And a VP who is so horrible that nobody will want to impeach Trump.

Well, he has plenty of people to pick from.
Santos would be awesome.
That would make a sick sort of sense honestly. Santos would check the boxes of a couple of demographics and would probably do or say anything Trump wanted him to.
Of course, the Santos circus act would draw attention away from Trump, not to mention that Santos has a trial scheduled early September for his own crimes. That would definitely be an unwelcome distraction, if Trump’s own running mate is on trial just before the general election and after his likely conviction might spend his time as VP in prison if Trump was elected.
It’s a funny thought but would never happen.
(Could you imagine if Trump and Santos ran together, they won, were separately convicted, and both of them went to prison while serving?)
What would happen then?
If Democrats retake the House, President Jeffries!
- Trump pardons Santos.
- Trump resigns the office.
- Santos pardons Trump.
- Per the 25th Amendment, Santos nominates Trump as his Vice President. Republican majorities in the Senate and House confirm him.
- Santos resigns, and Trump nominates him to fill the VP vacancy.
- Rinse and repeat as often as necessary for any further convictions.
Only works for federal convictions, though, so if Trump gets convicted in Georgia he’ll have to find another workaround.
I disagree. Trump’s going to have a real challenge in finding a VP who’s more unacceptable than he is.
I’ve been predicting that Trump will pick a veep on the less extreme side, especially with regard to abortion. But I wonder if the Robert Hur report is making him overconfident. I’d say the odds of Trump picking Noem or Sanders have increased.
