Say there was even a remote chance of a Discworld flick. Who should be in it?
Which set of characters would you use? The wizards, the witches or the guardsmen?
Which secondary characters? Cohen, Gaspode, Ly Tin?
Would the Librarian be CGI or would they reuse the ape costume from George of the Jungle?
(Myself, I can see Brendan Fraser as Cpt. Carrot)
Oh, and just to make it really fun, how about no limit on using actors from past or present. Want Joan Crawford as Granny Weatherwax? Fine by me!
Joan Plowright as Nanny Ogg, or perhaps Jennifer Saunders (of AbFab). Put some old lady makeup on Joanna Lumley (also of AbFab), increase her icy bitch personna tenfold, and have her play Granny Weatherwax.
If he weren’t already pegged as the head of a wizard school, I’d have Michael Gambon as Ridcully, acting more like his role in The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and her Lover. The rest of the wizards have to be played by Monty Python.
Alan Rickman as Vetinari is perfect.
Ben Miles (from Couplings) would make a good Rincewind.
WWE wrestler The Rock I think -looks- the part of a good Captain Carrot. I wonder if he could act it? Probably not…not subtle enough, I wouldn’t think.
I think John Rhys Davies would make a good Ridcully.
The big question is–who’d they get to play Sam Vimes??? It would seem almost inappropriate to have anyone other than Clint Eastwood in the role, but I fear that poor old man would crumble to dust if so much as given a little jostle!
Meh, a few months in the gym, lots of tuna and protein powder, he’d bulk up just fine. For me, the signal qualities an actor has to possess to play Carrot are a muscular body, youth, and wide-eyed innocence. Orlando Bloom would be perfect. Someone mentioned Brendan Fraser, who would have been a great Carrot 10 years ago, but now he’s too old.
I was so going to suggest just that! I’d love to see him play against type as a wide-eyed, naive innocent. I think he could pull it off. Between his SNL appearance and The rundown, I think he’s shown he can do a fair job at comedy.
Lobsang Ludd - it’s been a while since I’ve read ToT and don’t remember what was said about his physical appearance. If he has some Asiatic features, then I nominate Tony Jaa of the Ong Bak fame.
As for Rincewind, I think that I’ve seen Pterry’s quote somewhere that the best person to play him would be Nicholas Lyndhurst (Rodney from Only Fools and Horses) and to me he really seems like the one able to pull it off.
My other thoughts:
