Who would you want as a new poster?

What person would you want have stumble in to the SDMB and become a regular poster?

Please explain why.

My Choice, Science Fiction Writer Spider Robinson.
Sure he might be living in Canada by choice, yet we can’t hold that against him

He has always, in person and in writing, seemed to me a very interesting and well spoken person. He has many interesting ideas about space travel, recrational drug use, eduacation, and a dozen other topics. His explanations and examples of subjects are mostly refreshing and come from a unique and interesting perspective.
Most importantly, I find his ability to see the potental good in so many things refreshing his, passion about wanting to make the world a better place and having interesting ideas on how to go about it.

George W. Bush.

It would certainly be more interesting to view smarmy “shrub” comments when he’s right there to respond to them.

Condi Rice might be a bit more interesting then GWB. She’s certainly better educated.

Jesus. Just might end some of the squabbles over in GD. Then again he might make them worse…

If we’re not allowed historical / dead / resurrected figures, then I’d choose Steve Martin. Funny, intelligent, successful, perceptive… I think he’d be an asset.

Former President Jimmy Carter!

He has been in the Oval Office Hot Seat, he has acted as an official/semi-official/unofficial ambassador for the US all over the world, a former US Naval Officer in the Submarine service, and he is a fully qualified nuclear engineer.

He is said to know something of that exotic plant called the “peanut”, as well.

I’ll second Steve Martin. I think he’d be absolutely great!

If not Steve Martin, Joss Whedon–talented, funny, and maybe he can settle some of the Buffy-related debates in Cafe Society! (Hehehehe, I guess I want Joss Whedon for the same reason ianzin suggested Jesus Christ)

Oh thats easy. Robert Jordan. That way we could all hound him until he sits down and actually completes the goddam Wheel of Time series. A year or so ago I would have added Stephen King to that list, for the same basic reason(only substituting the Dark Tower series for the WoT), but he’s since then announced the timing of the ending so he’s off the hook.

I’m with you, Osip. Spider would be a great addition to the board, if only for the truly horrendous puns he can perpetrate. I think he’d like the atmosphere, too–the first thing this place reminded me of was Callahan’s.

I cast my vote for Harlan Ellison. Most people either love him or hate him, but he would never be boring. Always opinionated and willing to defend his opinions brilliantly. He might cause an upsurge in pit activity, but I would love to read one of his pit rants, his rants in print are already well known!

To name a few: another vote for Steve Martin, uh…lessee… George Carlin, John Leguizamo, Alan Alda, the Dell Guy, God, Lucifer, Buddha, Shiva, Steve Jobs, The Stainless Steel Rat, Nathan Brazil, The Last Boy Scout, The Terminator, Winona Ryder, David Letterman, Drew Carey, Jerry Springer, William Gibson, Arthur C. Clarke, all the Survivor winners, Art Bell, Paul Harvey, John Belushi, John Lennon, Dom Deluise, Mel Blanc, Walt Disney, Hitler, Churchill, FDR, Howard Hughes, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Steven Spielberg, Robert Zimeckis, George Lucas, George Romero, Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Gandalf, Sauron, Tolkien, Denis Leary, Jon Cryer, Bernadette Peters, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase and the guy who invented Astroturf. To name a few anyway.

I’d pick Kofi Annan, but I can’t really explain why. I just find him interesting, and he could help a lot regarding international politics questions/debates.

Michael Moorcock. I’ve read many of his online comments, and he loves to expound at length on a great many social, political, sexual, historical, and cultural topics. He seems to be very well-read and very well-rounded as well.

[sub]And me being “Una Persson” has nothing to do with it…[/sub]

Noam Chomsky, just to piss december off, if nothing else.

Can you imagone Prince Phillip in a pit thread? That could be fun.

Wouldn’t it be great if Phil Plait was on the SDMB?

Cecil Adams

:Blatant Hijack:

This thought popped into my brain as a result of this thread.

Just what would occur if someone registered the screenname of a well-known person, say, O.J. Simpson, and began posing as that person? If they did nothing inflammatory, would they be banned? Would the powers-that-be attempt to ascertain if the poster is, in fact, the person they claim to be?

Mods, if this needs to be in ATMB, please send it yon…and excuse me for increasing your work load.

And, geez, I hope I haven’t given anyone any ideas.

Well, we’ve had GOD, Santa Claus and Bill_Clinton and I don’t any of them were taken to be the real McCoy.

Although it would have been easy to ask a question to GOD checking if he is really HE

Eminem!
