Maybe this is GD or IMHO material…I don’t know. It’s mostly just something I had to say so here it is in MPSIMS.

This Reuters article says that Senator Jesse Helms will not be seeking re-election.

There are a lot of politicians I don’t agree with.

There are a few politicians I actively dislike.

Then there is Jesse Helms who I flat out DESPISE. I can’t stand that man! Strong words maybe but I really really really do not like that guy and I don’t even live in North Carolina.

The only downside to the whole thing is he still has his seat till 2003. Oh well…nothing’s perfect.

If it’s physically to do a halfhearted Happy Dance, that is. Really, I’m glad to read this, but I can only get so worked up about it. I mean…we only have to suffer this Neanderthal for another two years. Hooray.

Now, if he were to suddenly withdraw to a zen monastery somewhere, and retire his position, like, right now, that would be different. But until he leaves, my enthusiasm will be muted. He’ll still be actively working to declare people like me Enemies of All That Is American, and he’ll still be doing everything he can to make our country look ridiculous on the global stage.

Nah, I don’t think so. Robert Byrd did get into trouble over a stupid racial comment. UnclBeer knows that I’m no leftist. I am, however, a gay man who thinks that it is possible to be a political conservative without being a hater. Senator McCain is a conservative Republican, but he is an honorable, patriotic American. Jesse Helms has been a consistent racist and gay-baiter for his entire political career.

I think all politicians should be required to run wind sprints before being elected. What a wind sprint is, I’ll never know … only that I quit little league so I wouldn’t have to do 'em.

I live in NC, and the thing that tempers my enthusiasm is the fact that the idiots here will probably elect Elizabeth Dole to replace him.
