Hey, watch it–that’s my home town!
When I was “back home” (Tucson) over Christmas we had a small dinner get-together in Tucson, and one in Phoenix. I lived in AZ for 25 years, though I’ve lived in the DC burbs for almost 7 years now.
I’m in Cruces, NM, but my kid brother’s in Chandler so I go out there as often as I can–or have a reason to. If you guys would welcome a lowly New Mexican than I’m game to join in on the fun. Phoenix is only a 6 hour drive, that’s nothing. 
I just need a week or so’s notice.

I’ve collected all the e-mail addresses from those in the Phoenix area and will be sending out requests to help me move. What? I could be called a dopefest!

I’m in Glendale and it’s hard for me to get out to the lakes. I’d need a central or Northwest area Dopefest… sorry.
And I’d actually prefer a park setting for my little one (who has just turned four. Happy Birthday to my angel!). There is a wonderful park at T-bird and Rio Vista. It’s got a water area and huge playground equipment, very new and clean. Just an idea for the AZ Dopers with kiddos, kind of a controlled chaos thing.
I certainly don’t mind at all. In fact, if the slip had not been “corrected”, I would not have noticed. Thanks!
Casa Grande? Yikes. You’re much better off to have some folks drive the extra 50 miles to either Tucson or Phoenix.
TheLadyLion and I will be in Tucson, Marana actually, the 29th but we already have something planned. Is that Sunday or Monday a possibility? We’ll be in town the following weekend as well and I’ll probably be there during the first week of June depending on when I start my new job.
Phoenix Dopers? Anyone up for anything this Saturday?
This is something I haven’t been able to figure out ever since I moved here. Where I come from it’s nothing for people to drive 50+ miles one way everyday to work.
Here it’s like “3 MILES?!! I’M NOT GOING THAT FAR!!! Maybe we can save up for a plane ticket and catch a flight over there next year.”
I’ve met people that were born in Scottsdale and have never been to West Phoenix/Glendale because they think it’s too far.
I’m willing to go to Phoenix, maybe that park thing Sang suggested. The only day I can’t is Sunday the 30th.
What about Memorial Day? Anybody?

I agree that there are not as many meeting places in Case Grande. We could possibly meet at the Ostrich farm at Picacho Peak. That guy is a hoot to talk to.

Case Grande monument
A park or something.
Tempe Town lake does not appear to have any large gatherings planned (If I am reading their calendar correctly). That fits the bill of being a lake, park and tourist trap all in one. 
We need some way to find ourselves, though. I wandered around there for an hour or so last time without finding anyone. ;(
Rest assured that if lel attends she will have no problem holding up signs :).
I don’t think I can do the 29th without some serious revamping of 9 peoples’ schedules (which is not to say that it’s impossible, just a little difficult. If something is finalized in the next 4 or 5 days than I could probably pull it off.).
I can’t see a reason why I couldn’t do the 30th and/or 31st. Tuscon, Casa Grande or Phoenix . . . say the word.
Anyone care for a D’Backs’ game, or is that too expensive/hard to schedule etc?

The 'Backs are out of town until the 31st (San Francisco). I dunno how easy it’d be to get tix on a SF-game Memorial Day, though. It might also be Randy’s first home start since that game earlier this week.

so what else is there to do at the Ostrich farm? I mean it would be kinda fun but we usually do Phoenix 'fests at coffee plantation or something. I know there are good places to meet in Tucson…just don’t know what they are any more.
We do plan to do the Desert Museum while we’re there as I haven’t been in quite a fre years.
TheLadyLion and I will be in Marana the 30th and 31st and either day woulod be fine with us but we probably won’t be driving back up to Phoenix for anything.
There is little to nothing to do at the Ostrich farm. I only suggested it as a meeting place. We would have to go somewhere else to hold the meeting. Picacho Peak has a recreation area. Although it is mostly desert trails up the peak.
I think a much better idea would be a park or cafe somewhere centrally located. Since we have another vote agains the 29th, and none against the 31st, shall we concentrate on that date? Does anyone have significant problems with the 31st?
Padeye did you mean to imply that you can’t drive up to Phoenix on the 31st for a fest? Or did you mean that you would drive up for a fest, but are not planning to be here for anything else?

Can we settle on the metropolitan area to concentrate on? Shall we meet in the Phoenix area or the Tucson area?

Anyway, what about two meetings, one in Tucson & one in Phoenix? Depending on the time, I probably won’t go to Tucson, but may go to Phoenix. It depends on about a gazillion factors.
