Born and raised in Georgia. Graduated from UGA. Go Dawgs! Currently live in Atlanta.
Yes, that sounds familiar.
Husband did post-graduate research at Mizzou.
Living in Georgia, but since a lot of people are sharing their college fandom as well… Go Big XII! (I’m From Oklahoma)
In order to try to reduce the confusion about what’s being asked here, I have put up:
Southern Dopers ID Yourselves

We can continue this one for whatever purpose it may serve.
In addition to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) states, I have included
North Carolina
Virginia
because…
Well, it’s not that I was confused. The “SEC” designation implies fandom (sports + people = fandom), so I followed the crowd and identified team affiliation.
Hope that helps.
Of course. Short-sightedness on my part in the choice of terms for the region. That along with earlier threads I have started where football was an issue only added to the confusion.
It just looked like a poll would be the best way to get a feel for who all lives in this part of the country.
But as for the other side issues about the SEC and whatever, this thread may still have some value/use/amusement.
ETA: I just hope those who have (or will have) posted here will respond to the poll so as to update the list from ten years ago (minus all those other details).
In this case, perhaps over the next several weeks, may we have a PAC-12 poll?
Sounds like a fun plan. Be my guest.
I now live in Texas, which qualifies me for inclusion on the basis or residence. But a former LSU student, I have SEC fandom dating back to the days when Texas was anathema to the SEC. Now that West Virginia is in what was once a Texas conference, and Maryland in the Big Ten, none of that means very much anymore. I’ve lived in four different cities in Missouri at diffferent times, too, but calling that state “SEC” is a bit of a stretch.
