Who's gay in Hollywood?

Well, Bruce Vilanch…

They did have some fun with that when they cast her as a man-hating radical lesbian feminist anthropology professor in Krippendorf’s Tribe.

It might even have been part of their Skull & Bones initiation . . . I mean, why do you think they’re so damn secretive about the whole business?

Lily for many years wouldn’t say either way. She did, however, consistently refer to her partner, Jane Wagner, as her writing partner, creating the impression that there was nothing more to the relationship. That, as far as I’m concerned, means Lily was closeted.

Per IMDB Lily didn’t acknowledge the relationship as a romantic one until 2001, which is about when I remember hearing Lily discuss it publicly. Oddly, Jane Wagner’s bio on IMDB doesn’t mention the romantic aspect of the relationship.

There. That should be done in a month or so.

Whether a celebrity is gay or not is exactly as much our business as whether a celebrity is straight. Which depending on how one looks at it, means it’s entirely our business or it’s entirely not.

Ever notice how no one ever objects to the notion of acknowledging a celebrity’s heterosexuality on the grounds that it’s nobody’s business?

For better or for worse, heterosexuality is the accepted norm in our society. I couldn’t honestly care any less if someone is gay or straight, as mentioned above, unless it’s my husband.

I’m pretty sure he’s straight.

So are they!

Who do you think gave Richard Gere the gerbil?

BTW, to further clarify: they’re on Atkins.

I’ve heard this line of reasoning before. I didn’t buy it then and I don’t buy it now.

Well, personally I want to know if the lead singer of the Violent Femmes, Gordon Gano, is gay.

The reason is because to this day, I have lustful fantasys about the man. If it turns out he’s gay then perhaps I’ll be able to get on with my life. Finally.

So - band name not withstanding, is Gordon gay?

Why do we care about celebrities at all? I mean, sure it’s not important, but neither is anything about them, in the grand scheme of things. People like to gossip about celebrities. Hell, that interest is what keeps the famous rolling in dough.

To give a serious answer to the OP, my friend Steven is gay and lives in Hollywood. Hope this helps.

Um, what? You’re seriously denying the fact that in American society, you are assumed to be heterosexual unless proven otherwise?

Whether or not it’s appropiate or not, it’s still the truth… I would even go one further and say that most Americans believe the genetic and/or cultural baseline for sexuality is hetero.

And in case it somehow matters or makes my post less offensive to you, I am bisexual myself.

You don’t by any chance live in Hollywood, do you?

No, I’m saying that the spectre of hot mansex between 2004 GWB and 2004 JFKerry is more palatable to imagine than any kind of sex of any sort whatsoever involving Tom Cruise, be it straight, gay, with hamsters, with snakes, as part of pagan fertility rituals under sacred sycamore trees or whatever.

No, but I went through it about three months ago.

I hope I didn’t catch any more gay than I already have.

Of course not. He’s saying he doesn’t buy that as a valid argument as to why a celebrity’s status as a heterosexual is a fit topic for public comment, but not their status as gay, lesbian, or bisexual.

Just IME, but I’d rather someone say “I don’t care” (and mean by that, generally, “It doesn’t negatively affect my perception of you”) than either say nothing or say something derogatory. At least with the “I don’t care” I know it’s relatively safe to be out around that person, whereas with no reaction … well, there are several possibilities there, and few of them are fun.

Also, depending on the circle in which one runs, it can be as important there to visibly be nonplussed by non-heterosexuality as it can to be visibly, say, pious.

Oh, Polycarp, are you sure about Bruce?

I find it bizarre that people care about the sexual preference of celebrities of their non-preferred gender. I can’t bring myself to care one way or another about Tom Cruise’s orientation, no matter how hard I try.

On the other hand, I nearly cried when Rosie O’Donnell came out. Sigh.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Shut up.
