Late to the game, but the red “suspended” in a persons profile is how Discourse shows posters who have been banned. I think an actual suspension will give the dates and disappear once the suspension expires. That’s why Bo’s profile shows no suspension but Scumpup is banned so his still shows.
Some mods used to put “banned” next to the user name so you see it on every post they made, at least for socks and trolls. I’m not sure if they do it at all anymore.
No, because the @Martin_Hyde that posted here wasn’t a blustering idiot. I miss his posts, but I could see his departure coming for quite a while. This board is very unfriendly to conservatives, even anti-Trump ones. I’ve said it before, but if I was a conservative I certainly wouldn’t let anyone here know about it.
We’re suppose to change banned user’s titles to BANNED. That is what you’re seeing next to their name. I sure it is a step that has been missed from time to time. Not sure if I’ve missed it yet.
Bo is of course welcomed back whenever he wants. He was only suspended for 3 days and it was back in January.
There are obviously legions of people who were banned prior to Discourse who won’t have their titles changed.
He kept citing this blog as a source- it was his own. So, he was his own cite.
His knowledge was not as deep as it seemed.
I always enjoyed LSL Guy’s posts. I fly out of Lambert a lot (have to travel to St. Louis for work frequently) and sometimes wonder if I’ve passed him in the terminals or been a passenger on one of his flights. I hope he comes back someday.
I also kind of miss asahi. Yeah, I know, banned and deserved it - but he was never boring to read.
I’d disagree. Toward the end of their run, I figured I knew what they were going to say when I saw the user name. “Boring” would be the most likely adjective I’d use to describe them.
However, you miss who you miss, and I can’t tell you you’re wrong on that count.
@LSL Guy often disappears for a year or so now and then. He maintains he’s just taking a break from the Dope. My person theory is that he’s flying volunteer missions for various liberation movements around the world.

It seems he took getting suspended badly. Up to him if he gets over it or not.
BTW, can you not search for banned users profiles by searching for their user name? Shodan, Scumpup and HurricaneDitka all show up as not being a user name. Doesn’t bother me at all, just didn’t remember it working that way.
Duh! I didn’t even think about that. Now I can’t even remember if anything showed for banned posters on vBulletin.
I didn’t know that, I just thought he was often a dick. Him and Shodan could have had a thread all to themselves by arguing “Yes, he did” and “No, he didn’t.”
I think he just lays on a beach and drinks. Makes up for all those days he can’t drink because of those darn flying regulations.
Second that. Always nice to have someone who has actual facts to offer as opposed to my wild guesstimates and unsupported theories. I feel he may have a slight lead on me in the win column.
He does the unsupported guesstimate thing all the time when he strays from his fields of expertise. He’s unparalleled with space stuff. Other things, not so much.
Could be, but not that I’ve seen. He’s kind of the Joe Friday in threads I run across him in.

Oh, @Idle_Thoughts did jump me straight up. Like the 3rd day I posted. I had read and talked to a couple Dopers, in PMs before I ever posted, for about a year.
@idle_thoughts shocked me. I had followed a couple of his game threads and loved them.
You just never know who you’re gonna piss off on any given day. I’m good at doing that, it seems.
Speaking of banned posters there was ZPG Zealot. I remember her making some sort of argument that a woman shaking a man’s hand was an invitation to rape her or something to that effect. (It was why she would refuse to shake another man’s hand.)
Her argument was that a handshake was literally the same thing as rape (or functionally equivalent, anyway). For obvious reasons her thesis was met with much scorn and ridicule.
Other than that her posts were usually inoffensive and often pleasant and informative.
