@begbert2 in about a year now too.
Oh, not terrible, you know. Good, bad, in between, so-so. I’m not sure if that’s sufficiently vague.
I spend most of my ‘social’ time on Blue Sky, Instagram, or Imgur nowadays. Mostly in a passive capacity!
I’m sure I’m getting two similarly named posters confused. Was he the one that had some form of dementia? I thought he had passed away, but I’m probably thinking of someone else.
Yeah, he and @Quasimodal (last visit Jan 21, 2018) always got mixed up back in the day.
Quasimodem is the poster with dementia who had a blog about his health situation he sometimes linked to. I had quite a few interactions with him, as IIRC, he was born in Germany (I think army brat) and was always interested in German matters. I can’t remember how long it’s been, but I guess it’s been at least 8 years since I saw him posting here. And I dimly remember that there also was a poster with the name of Quasimodal.
ETA: ninja’d.
OK, so I was half right. Quasimodem was the poster with dementia, but is still alive and blogging.
And whatever dementia he has, last I saw on his blog, he’s still pretty dog-gone articulate for someone who’s been dealing with it for 15+ years.
I remember seeing him on That Other Website. I’m wondering if he had a stroke that left him permanently disabled, and it just looked like dementia at first. (Something like this happened to my BFF’s now-deceased mother.)
I have had the vague sense of not seeing Reimann around lately. This morning I noticed a post of his in an old thread and checked: last posted Feburary 24th, last seen Feburary 24th.
Let’s @Riemann him.
I think he was diagnosed with depression, which gave some of the symptoms.
Haven’t heard from @cochrane in a while. Hidden profile. Maybe they’re lurking.
I like Quasi, I remember he had some weird itchy thing that he was sure was bugs living under his skin. And used diatomaceous earth to treat it. And was getting no relief.
That is so indicative of mental illness.
I hope he got some kind of help.
He was nice.
He had early onset Alzheimer’s
Aw, Man. Poor fella.
Oh hell, I didn’t know that either. Alzheimers scares me more than cancer. Cancer is a loss of health, the other is a loss of mind.
Here is a link to the profile: https://boards.straightdope.com/u/cochrane/summary
Well, Quasimodem claimed to have Alzheimers. We don’t know what his doctors have said. Maybe he does and maybe he doesn’t, but these hardly seem like the writing of someone who’s been suffering from it for 15+ years.
Quasi’s blog
My neighbor’s wife has full blown dementia of some flavor, yet she can seem totally with it for short periods of time. Then she will wander off from the house in her bathrobe, no shoes, in frigid weather. Her husband has installed locks on all the doors and wears the keys on a necklace.
Dementia does not equal Alzheimer’s. We were hoping my mother-in-law had some other type of dementia but we got the bad news. AD patients average 3 to 11 years life expectancy after diagnosis. Some live longer but it is a progressive disease. Someone with Alzheimer’s may live longer than the average patient but that doesn’t mean they are able to have a normal quality of life for any length of time. Early onset Alzheimer’s is more aggressive and has a worse life expectancy. Someone with early onset Alzheimer’s is extremely unlikely to be able to communicate effectively 15 years later. Mostly because of death but other stuff too.
